Introduction

In Indian astrology, Kerala Astrology is commonly practiced in North India and especially in South India. Its original source is the region of Kerala. The material published so far under the name of Kerala Astrology is of three types. The first is Numerical Astrology original: "Aksharanka Jyotish" - a system where letters are assigned numerical values, the second is Body-Touch Science original: "Anga Sparsha Vidya" - predicting based on which body part a person touches, and the third is Subjective Horoscope Astrology. Among these, the curiosity of astrologers and the general public is greatest toward the first two.

**The Antiquity of Kerala Astrology—**It is nearly impossible to estimate how old Kerala Astrology is. We can only say that, like other sciences, the blossoming and development of Indian astrology has occurred since time immemorial. Ancient astrologers have given its subject matter a place in their texts. Durgadeva, a scholar of astrology in South India, gave eight types of "Question-Afflictions" original: "Prashnarishta" - omens or obstacles identified at the time a question is asked in his book Rishtu Samuccaya in 1032 AD: (1) Finger question, (2) Lac-dye question, (3) Yellow-pigment question, (4) Letter-of-the-question, (5) Embraced question, (6) Burnt question, (7) Blazing question, and (8) Peaceful question. This book also provides the method for answering these questions. This book titled Rishtu Samuccaya, composed by Durgadeva, is written in the Prakrit language. At its conclusion, the teacher writes:

"Durgadeva composed this Rishtu Samuccaya scripture, which draws upon the meaning of many scriptures, by the word of Sanyamadeva." original: "Raiyam bahu satthattham uvajivita hu Duggaevena. Rindhu samuccaya sattham vayanena Sanjama devassa." - translated from Prakrit

The name of Durgadeva's teacher was Sanyamadeva. He was also an expert in the Kerala sciences. From this, the conclusion can be drawn that one thousand years ago, the Kerala system was widely popular in India.

**The Foundation of Kerala Astrology—**The fundamental basis of Kerala Astrology is the astrological signals expressed through a person's psychological movements. The feelings present in a person's inner conscience are revealed through their speech and physical gestures. A person's various facial expressions and gestures indicate the tendencies of their inner mind. Whatever auspicious or inauspicious thought arises in a human mind, its result is manifested accordingly. Kerala Astrology predicts results only after observing the reflection of those auspicious or inauspicious thoughts. So be it.

By asking the seeker to name a flower, fruit, deity, or river, and using the first letter of that name, or the first letter of the question, or the sum of the numerical values of the collection of letters, the knowledge of questions regarding the three periods of time past, present, and future is obtained. In the Income-Knowledge original: "Aaya Gyana" - a specific calculation method method, work is accomplished using only the first letter. In the Constant-Number original: "Dhruvanka" method, calculations are performed using all the letters of the question. In the Body-Touch Science, the auspicious or inauspicious future is determined on the basis of the person's gestures...
