The seeker should ask their question only once. One should approach the astrologeroriginal: "daivajña" — one who knows the divine or fate only while carrying offerings such as fruits, flowers, or gems in their hands.
With a peaceful mind and full hands, one should devotedly question the astrologer, who is dedicated to his own spiritual duties along with the study of the nine planets and their limbs.
When a person asks a question of the astrologer while offering fruits and flowers, the answer to the question turns out to be true; otherwise, it does not. || 8-10 ||
In these verses, the phrases "ask only once" original: "sakṛdeva pṛcchet" and "with full hands" original: "pūrṇapāṇiḥ" are extremely important. "With full hands" means that one should ask a question only after taking fruits, flowers, grain, gems, or currency notes according to one's capacity; otherwise, the result of the query will not be accurate. Similarly, "ask only once" means the question should be posed a single time and not repeated over and over. Secondly—one should not ask more than one question on a single occasion.
Prose Order: East, West, North, and Northeast directions are auspicious. South is demonic and wicked, while Southeast and Northwest are void. || 11 ||
Commentary: If the person asking the question sits to the East, West, or North of the astrologer, the result is auspicious. Sitting in the South or Southwest results in "wicked" (inauspicious) outcomes, and sitting in the Southeast or Northwest should be said to yield "void" results. || 11 ||
Here, "void result" original: "shūnya phala" implies that there will be no significant outcome, good or bad—meaning a mediocre or neutral result is obtained. For the ease of the readers, the directions are presented along with their presiding deities and results. Here, eight directions are recognized: four cardinal directions and four corner directions. The corners are also called intermediate directionsoriginal: "vidishā".
