Having meditated upon the lotus feet of Lord Krishna—the source of bliss, the son of Nanda, the benefactor of his devotees, the destroyer of demons, the humbler of Indra's pride, and the lifter of Mount Govardhan—I first offer my salutations with folded hands to the lotus feet of the most compassionate scholars residing in the land of the Aryans original: "Aryavarta," a historical name for Northern India. Now, one should observe what various wonderful sciences the Supreme Brahman, the Almighty, has created for the benefit of the world in this fleeting existence. By knowing these sciences, the human body—composed of the five elements earth, water, fire, air, and ether—is considered the foremost among the eighty-four million species created by Lord Brahma. Often, those who master these sciences become as worshipful as the gods among men, and kings and emperors grant them great honor.
At this time, there is no need to describe other sciences. I submit only regarding the science of Astrology Jyotish: the traditional Indian system of astronomy and astrology, which is the root of all religions that benefit the world. By knowing this Science of Hours Horashastra: predictive astrology based on the time of birth, those who see through the three periods of time past, present, and future can explain the auspicious and inauspicious fruits of all three births for every living being. Those virtuous men who follow the rules of this science never experience any sorrow. Within this field, many branches are described, such as Mathematical Astronomy Siddhanta, Omens and Natural Astrology Samhita, Natal Astrology Hora Jataka, Annual Persian-influenced Astrology Tajika, Horary Astrology Prashna, and Electional Astrology Muhurta. Among these, all worldly people consider the Natal branch Jataka to be the best, because through it, the appropriate results of a person's past, future, and present are told. It has two divisions: one is the Male Horoscope, and the other is the Female Horoscope. Thus—
