...is what makes one worthy of the title Knower of the Divine original: "Daivajnan"; a traditional term for an astrologer who possesses both technical skill and spiritual insight. If one possesses such profound knowledge—specifically the science of astrology—then whatever he speaks will come to pass as truth. Therefore, if anyone displays an interest in learning astrology, they must first serve God and lead a pure life.
This humble servant a traditional self-deprecating reference to the author possesses no capability to write a comprehensive treatise on the science of stars original: "Jyotishastram", which is as vast and deep as the great ocean. However, this book is written solely with the intention of pointing out a general outline of the subject to those educated in other fields who do not yet know even the basic meaning of astrology. If, by reading this work, anyone feels encouraged to study the subjects of the stars or to learn the science of astrology with diligence, then my purpose will be fulfilled. The matters discussed herein are not intended to instruct a scholar; on the contrary, they serve as a "guide-post" original: "kattikkotti"; literally a signpost or indicator to inspire the unlearned toward scholarship. I have written this with great care so as not to deviate far from that specific objective.
