Auspicious Invocation
Now, salutations to the Divine, who is self-abiding, eternal, and the destroyer of sins; to the Light of Consciousness who is beyond the divisions of sequential time. 1 original: "Atha svasthāya devāya..." This verse invokes the supreme reality as pure light.
Salutations to the peaceful Radiance, who is unconditioned by space or time, whose form is infinite pure consciousness, and who is known only through one's own direct experience. 2
Salutations to the sole Lord of the Universe, who is meditated upon by infinite names, who ordains all forms, and who is the true meaning expressed by all sacred mantras. 3
Salutations to the Supreme Being, whose glory transcends speech and mind; who manifests as the three qualities, the eight qualities, and infinite qualities, yet remains fundamentally without attributes. 4 The "three qualities" (triguna) refer to balance, activity, and inertia; the "eight qualities" (ashtaguna) often refer to the primary virtues of the soul in Vedic philosophy.
In whatever manner He is worshipped, wherever He is honored, whoever He may be—to that Divine Being, I offer my salutations. 5
Salutations to the Supreme Lord, who is the self-established essence, eternal, sinless, and the form of the Light of Consciousness which is devoid of sequential divisions. Salutations to the Supreme Lord who is beyond space and time, infinite, the essence of pure consciousness, the one who experiences Himself, the supremely peaceful, the radiant one, the wearer of many names, the one who possesses all forms, and the one who is the speaker of all mantras and the Master of the Universe.
Salutations to the Supreme Lord who, despite possessing the three qualities, the eight qualities, and infinite qualities, is nonetheless without attributes and formless, transcending both the mind and speech.
Salutations to the Supreme Lord who accepts any form of worship, who grants His vision anywhere, and who assumes any form.
