One who lacks wisdom, wealth, and humility shall suffer in sorrow. If both auspicious and inauspicious planets are present in the birth star Nakshatra, the planet with the greater strength will exert its influence over the subject. In this manner, Kashyapa explained this highly significant principle in his treatise. At the time of birth, one must examine the results of both the Moon's star and the Ascendant Lagna: the degree of the zodiac rising on the eastern horizon at the time of birth star. The results derived from the specific star should be considered more subtle and precise than those of the zodiac sign Rashi.
One born in the first quarter of Mula harms the father; the second, the mother;
The third harms one's own wealth; the fourth brings friends and prosperity. 22
Original Sanskrit: "Mūlādyapādajo hāni pitaram tu dvitīyaja: mātaram svam tṛtīyo’rthāssuhṛdaśca turīyaja:"
Birth in the first quarter charana of the Mula star causes harm to the father. The second quarter harms the mother, and the third quarter harms the wealth of the individual born. Birth in the fourth quarter brings auspicious results.
The junctions of Leo-Cancer, Sagittarius-Scorpio, and Aries-Pisces;
These transitional moments Gandanta are givers of death. 22
Original Sanskrit: "Simha karkaṭayoścāpā kīṭayornina meṣayo: gaṇḍāstamastarālam tannāḍikā nidhanapradā"
The transitional moments Sandhi: the 'junction' or gap between two signs or states between the signs of Cancer and Leo, Scorpio and Sagittarius, and Pisces and Aries cause harm to the subject.
Transitions of year, solstice, month, and season are inauspicious;
Transition of the lunar day causes mental agony; transition of the star causes great fear. 23
Transition of the Yoga causes intense confusion; transition of the Ascendant causes loss of happiness;
At the end of the lunar day, Ascendant, or zodiacal cycle, work is destroyed and loss occurs. 24
Equality of declination causes death to the doer; Vyatipata causes the destruction of the lineage;
In Vaidhriti, there is loss of life; and the half of Parigha grants disease. 25
One born during the transition of a year, a month, or a season may have to live as a very wretched person. Birth during a lunar day transition Tithi Sandhi causes mental distress; birth during a star transition Nakshatra Sandhi causes fear; birth during a Yoga transition causes intense wandering or confusion; and birth during an Ascendant transition Lagna Sandhi causes the loss of comforts. In these periods, there is failure in undertakings and fear of death. In the Kranti Samya Yoga, there is fear of death; in the Vyatipata Yoga, there is harm to the lineage; in the Vaidhriti Yoga, there is a threat to life; and birth in the first half of the Parigha Yoga causes fear of disease.
Birth in the Vaidhriti and Vyatipata Yogas causes extraordinary harm. Therefore, pacification rituals Shanti: Vedic remedial prayers or rituals to mitigate negative planetary effects must be performed for these. Even for those born on the New Moon Amavasya or the fourteenth waning lunar day Krishna Chaturdashi, pacification rituals must certainly be performed.
