Regarding the phrase "situated between two planetary junctions": This means that when a planet's position is greater than the starting junction Sandhi; the point where one astrological house ends and another begins and less than the ending junction, then that planet is considered to be "within the house" and yields the full results of that house. If the planet is less than or greater than these two junctions, it yields the results of the preceding or succeeding house. Specifically, if the planet is less than the starting junction, it gives results based on the Vinshopaka; a unit of twenty used to measure planetary strength of the previous house. When the planet is greater than the ending junction, it gives the results of the following house. || 28 ||
Now, the author explains the house results in terms of these twenty units (Vinshopakas). The following example is explained: The Sun is at 10 signs, 7 degrees, 30 minutes, and 6 seconds.
The result of a planet situated between two junctions belongs to that house. || If it is less or more than the two junctions, the result belongs to the preceding or succeeding house. || 28 || One should calculate the difference between the planet and the junction, multiply it by twenty (20), and divide it. || The quotient obtained by dividing by the difference between the house junctions is known as the result in Vinshopakas. || 29 || Mars, Venus, Mercury, the Moon, the Sun, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Saturn, and Jupiter are the lords of the signs. || The first are the lords of the Drekkana; a ten-degree subdivision of a zodiac sign starting from Mars; the middle ones from the Sun; and the third from Venus, following the order of the signs. || 30 ||
Now, the Table of Decans (Drekkana) is written:
| Auspicious | Ar | Ta | Ge | Ca | Le | Vi | Li | Sc | Sg | Cp | Aq | Pi |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10° | Mar | Ven | Mer | Moo | Sun | Mer | Ven | Mar | Jup | Sat | Sat | Jup |
| 20° | Sun | Mar | Ven | Mer | Moo | Sun | Mer | Ven | Mar | Jup | Sat | Sat |
| 30° | Jup | Sat | Sat | Jup | Mar | Ven | Mer | Moo | Sun | Mer | Ven | Mar |
The table headers use abbreviations for the zodiac signs: Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces.
The junction is 4|22|18|32. The difference between these two is 14|48|17. Multiplied by twenty (20), it is 296|5|40. The house is 5|5|8|0 and the junction is 4|22|18|32; the difference between them is 17|10|23. Now, dividing the dividend 1,029,540 by the divisor 61,823, the result obtained is the Vinshopaka value: 17|34. The same applies to the Moon and others. Thus are the house results in Vinshopakas for the Sun and other planets. || 29 ||
Now, the strength and weakness of the planets will be discussed. Because planetary strength is a vast subject, the author first states the lords of the signs and portions to calculate that strength. Regarding "Mars etc.": Mars is the lord of Aries and Scorpio...
