Many thanks are due to the eminent scholar, Shri Ram Swarup Shastri, a resident of Moradabad and an ornament of the Gauda lineage The Gauda Brahmins are a traditional community of scholars. He is a master of Logic original: Nyaya and other traditional sciences, having studied at the Government Sanskrit College in Kashi Modern-day Varanasi, the historic center of Indian learning. It is this scholar who, with great effort, has composed a lucid Hindi commentary on the chapter concerning Arithmetic Vyaktaganita: the science of working with known quantities, as opposed to algebra titled "Lilavati." This work is a primary part of the great treatise Siddhanta Shiromani, authored by the venerable master Bhaskaracharya.
This Hindi commentary was created for the benefit of all students, ensuring a very clear understanding of the text’s meaning. Within this commentary, the mathematical rules, examples, and procedures can be understood without difficulty. The composition of this commentary by the said Pandit is a great favor to those modern students who are eager to learn the science of mathematics.
At our encouragement, this Pandit has adorned the book Lilavati with this Hindi commentary and sent it to us with great respect. We, in turn, have published it with great enthusiasm, printing it at our own "Shri Venkateshwar" Press. We offer our thanks to those students who shall acquire and study this book. Because a book such as this, graced with such a detailed Hindi explanation, has never been printed or published until now, we hope that people will certainly acquire this volume and find success through the labors of this eminent scholar.
