The late Mahavir Prasad Srivastava was born on the second day of the bright fortnight of the month of Kartik in the year 1944 of the Vikrama SamvatThe Vikrama Samvat is a historical Hindu calendar era that began in 57 BCE. To find the Common Era (CE) date, one generally subtracts 57 years from the Samvat year., corresponding to October 18, 1887, in the village of Bizhauli, Handia Tehsil, in the district of Allahabad. He passed his High School (1906) and Intermediate examinations (1908) at the Kayastha Pathshala in Allahabad, and earned his Bachelor of Science degree (1910) from Muir Central College. Due to financial difficulties, he took up employment. In the month of Kartik, Samvat 1976 (c. 1919 CE), he began writing the Vijnana Bhashya original: "विज्ञानभाष्य"; literally, "Scientific Commentary" on the Surya Siddhanta, which was published serially in the monthly magazine of the Science Council. This commentary was completed in Samvat 1987 (c. 1930 CE). The Science Council published it in book form in two volumes.
For this work, he was honored with the Mangala Prasad Prize A prestigious literary award established in 1923 for excellence in Hindi literature and scholarship. and the Chunnilal Award.
Since the first edition of this work has sold out, it is now being republished due to the constant requests of readers.
