The person primarily responsible for this work original: "The Only Begetter"—a reference to the dedication of Shakespeare's Sonnets is Mr. Lefébure original: Monsieur Lefébure, author of The Eyes of Horus original: Les Yeux d’Horus and other studies in Egyptology. He suggested writing this book, but he is in no way responsible for the opinions expressed within it.
The author cannot pass up the opportunity to thank Mr. Frederic Myers for his kindness in reading the proof sheets of the earlier chapters and suggesting several corrections. Mr. Myers, however, probably does not agree with the author on certain points—for example, in the chapter on "Possession." Since the second part of the book differs significantly from the opinions usually held by most anthropological writers on early religion, the author must state here (as he does later) that no harm can come from seeing how facts look from a new point of view. He certainly did not expect the facts to fall into the shape he now presents for criticism.
