Mirror of Auspicious Moments

The deities Mitra presiding over Anuradha, Indra Jyeshtha, Aditi Punarvasu, the Moon Mrigashira, Pushan Revati, the Wind Swati, Tvashtar Chitra, and the Sun Hasta govern these segments. This group of nine, beginning with Rohini, along with Hasta, the Universal Gods Vishvedevas, and Yama Bharani at the head, form the wheel of the mansions. This is what is considered when analyzing the results of actions. || 36 ||

The Swift original: Kshipra mansions are those ruled by the Sun, Ashvini, and Pushya. The Sharp original: Teekshna ones are those ruled by the Fire and the Lord of the Ancestors. The Gentle original: Mridu ones are those ruled by Mitra, Aditi, and the Moon. The mansions ruled by the Fierce original: Ugra ones are the two governed by Aryaman and the Father ancestors. Those termed Fixed original: Sthira are the three beginning with the 'Later' Uttara stars. The remaining are classified as Sharp-Dreadful stars. || 37 ||

Regarding the gender of the stars: The two beginning with Ashvini, the Sun, the Destroyer of Mura Vishnu/Shravana, the Mother and Father the two Ashashadas, and those ruled by the Gods are considered Masculine. The others are Feminine. The stars associated with the Gods, the living being, Aditi, the Sun, the Wind, and the Dawn, along with those named after Vishnu, are considered pure. In the Northeast, these are known as the celestial directions... as described in the Asura treatises. || 38 ||

The four stars beginning with the Fire original: Agni/Krittika are said to be Internal original: Antara. The three beginning with Mitra are External original: Bahya. In this manner, seven are distributed for various rites. || 39 ||

The Lunar Days original: Tithis are situated in order as: Prosperous original: Nanda, Fortunate original: Bhadra, Victorious original: Vijaya, Empty original: Rikta, and Full original: Purna. Among these, certain days are known as Vulnerable original: Chhidra or 'pierced' days, which are avoided for auspicious works. || 40 ||

The Half-Lunar Days original: Karanas that are Movable original: Chara are known by the names: Bava, Balava, Kaulava, Taitila, Gara, Vanija, and Vishti.

These occur during the waxing and waning phases, ending with the New Moon. || 41 || Their symbols—the Lion, Tiger, Boar, Donkey, Elephant, Cow, and the Thunderbolt—are well-known. The Fixed Half-Lunar Days original: Sthira Karana are said to be four, starting from the second half of the fourteenth day of the dark fortnight. Their names are Shakuni Bird, Chatushpada Four-legged, Naga Serpent, and Kimstughna. || 42 ||

The Mansion, Weekday, Lunar Day, and Half-Day, combined with the Yoga luni-solar alignment, constitute the Five-Limbed Calendar original: Panchanga. When combined with the zodiac signs, it is called the 'six-limbed' system. Gautama and the Buddha also spoke of the seven-limbed system when including the specific planets in their houses. || 43 ||

Regarding the signs: Virgo and others are considered Human Signs. Those like Aries are Bipedal. The water-dwelling signs are the Aquatic portions. In the East and West, they are divided; two parts in Aries... those called Quadrupeds are like the beasts of the field. || 44 ||

The Priestly Caste original: Vipra signs are ruled by Jupiter and Venus. The Warrior Caste original: Kshatriya by Mars and the Sun. Mercury and the Moon rule the Merchant Caste original: Vaishya, and the son of the Sun Saturn rules the last Laborer Caste original: Shudra. Jupiter, Venus, and Mercury are the lords of the Vedas and the directions... || 45 ||

The Moon and Venus are Female. Mercury and Saturn are Eunuchs neuter. The others are known as Male. Herein, the appearance, body, proportions, qualities, and nature of substances are described. I have not detailed the secrets of the planets elsewhere. || 46 ||
