Mirror of Auspicious Moments

5 Through the reasoning found in this verse, the meaning of this science is woven together here in numerical form. || 1 ||
The twenty-eight Nakshatras lunar mansions are established here; those who do not know the two referring to the calculation of specific auspicious/inauspicious pairs are reliant on others. Here, I shall describe the Doshas astrological faults or afflictions of the Muhurta an auspicious moment of time for men. For who has the power to act without knowing these? || 2 || The afflictions include: corrupted Tithis lunar days, half-days, and weekdays; the specific Ghatikas units of 24 minutes that are considered "poisonous" in certain stars; the Paksha fortnight, the afternoon, and the five segments beginning with Yama the god of death, representing an inauspicious time segment; the solar days and the Vishti an inauspicious period/Karana; the six bad combinations; the "gap" lunar days; the planetary conjunctions; and the three "deaths" including the head of the serpent. || 3 || One must consider the star and the house which are unfavorable to the performer; the "scorched" and "pierced" stars; the times of burning and separation; the six months that are considered "dwelling-less"; the days without a beginning; the times of birth; and the intercalary or "extra" months. || 4 || In marriage, the tonsure ceremony original: punvisha, choosing a direction, or constructing a hall, these are considered highly censured. One should know these various destructions of action and avoid them. Therefore, with great effort, let all rituals be performed only after setting these aside. || 5 || From the inner senses to the... The "Staff of Brahma" original: Brahma-danda and the "Banner" original: Dhvaja in the forenoon, or those in the afternoon, are to be censured. Those hours from the rising to the setting of the sun are specifically condemned. || 8 || The planets, beginning with the lord of the day, are the rulers of the divisions of the day in sequence.
