Planetary Disks and the Timing of Rites

The fourth quarter of the orb original: "vimbvam"; refers to the celestial disk of a planet or the Sun, and the first quarter of the constellation belonging to Vishnu the constellation Abhijit are considered. This is what is called the utterance regarding Abhijit. When the planets are situated in the constellation of Vyatipata a highly inauspicious astrological alignment, they remain there for the duration of its influence. || 65 ||

Thus, in these houses, beginning from the House of Desire the 7th house; original: "Smara", one should not proceed with the commencement of the First Tonsure Chaula the ritual first haircut of a child, the First Feeding Annaprashana, or the Sacred Thread Ceremony Maunji the investiture of the sacred thread for students in that order. Malefic planets original: "papa" situated in the Ascendant the 1st house or the House of Desire destroy the fruits of all these works. The months starting with Ashadha typically June–July are considered very slow or dull months for these activities. So says the sage Vasishtha. || 67 ||

The sowing of seeds, the coronation of kings, the beginning of high studies, the start of house construction, and the establishment of knowledge—these are sacred acts. The seven rituals including the Tonsure and the Naming Ceremony original: "Namadheya" should not be performed by the wise if the planetary "eyes" the planetary aspects or sight are not well-placed. || 68 ||
