12 The alignment of the five limbs of the calendar Panchanga the five elements are Tithi (lunar day), Vara (weekday), Nakshatra (constellation), Yoga, and Karana creates a "Leader of Virtues." When six limbs align, it is called the "King of Virtues," and an alignment of seven limbs is known as the "King of Kings of Virtues." || 1 || This knowledge, revealed by the delighted divine sages original: "Devarshi", provides happiness and is difficult to obtain for those with little spiritual merit. Those who find this "King of Auspicious Moments" Muhurta possess great virtue. || 2 ||
Benefic planets original: "Saumyah"; referring to Jupiter, Venus, Mercury, and a strong Moon situated in the angles Kendra the 1st, 4th, 7th, and 10th houses or trines Trikona the 1st, 5th, and 9th houses, and malefic planets original: "Papah"; referring to Saturn, Mars, and the Sun situated in the 3rd, 6th, or 11th houses, or all planets situated in the 11th house, bring success to men in all auspicious works. || 3 ||
Success is born from the Moon's constellation Nakshatra. When the empty lunar days Rikta Tithis the 4th, 9th, and 14th days of the lunar fortnight, usually avoided are avoided and the full days Purna Tithis are chosen, the "Great King of Virtues" is perfected, bringing auspicious results. || 4 ||
The three intervals in the middle of the day and night are known as the "pillar" points; those on either side are the flanks. Where the "Empty Pot" likely referring to the Kumbha/Rikta voids is avoided and purified, success is granted. || 5 ||
A day consists of fifteen parts; these are the Muhurtas, which are measured by the stars. Fifteen are known for the day, and fifteen are likewise ordained for the night. || 11 || A Muhurta is approximately 48 minutes.
The Muhurtas of the day are governed by these deities: Rudra, Ahi, Mitra, Pitri, Vasu, Jala, Vishvadevas, Vidhi Brahma, Saturya, Indragni, Nirriti, Varuna, Aryaman, Bhaga, and Vidhatri. 10 11? These Muhurtas follow in sequence... Aditi, Guru, Vishnu, Hasta, Tvashtri, Samira, Arka—
—as declared by the ancient sages. || 13 || All these Muhurtas remembered for auspicious works are a thousand times more effective... as conquered by Brahma and the gods. || 14 || Among those mentioned for day and night, certain star-forms must be abandoned. Those in the 11th and 3rd parts are worshipped for auspicious works, while others are avoided. || 15 ||
The Abhijit Muhurta the auspicious period around midday destroys defects, just as the sun's position at the zenith kills the shadows. It brings success in wealth for those traveling to distant lands. || 16 ||
The wise should avoid the Muhurtas governed by Yama, Agni, Brahma, and the Pitris, as well as those ruled by the demons original: "Rakshas" and Shani Saturn, according to the rules. || 17 || These names were spoken in the Puranas: Dasra, Mitra, Aryaman, Savitri, Vairaja, Gandharva... || 18 ||
The daytime Muhurtas should be known as Abhijit, Rohini, Bala, Vijaya, Nairrita, Varuna, and Bhaga. || 19 || The experts in the Puranas declare that Abhijit, Rohini, Bala, and Vijaya are the creators of success in all auspicious tasks. || 18 || The verse numbering in the original manuscript is inconsistent here.
