original: "payasa-hantva-abhisincya" After sprinkling [the child] with milk and curds, one should perform the ritual for forgiveness. According to the Smritikodanda, purity is achieved when the ritual is performed with the proper prefixing of "Ga" and others; otherwise, it is not purified.
Regarding the specific timing for the different classes varnas, the days of the week, the lunar mansions nakshatras, and the strength of the rising sign lagna-bala, it is said: The first ritual haircut Chaula-karma should be performed for the social classes starting with the Brahmins on the days of the Sun, Mars, and Saturn respectively. Ina means the Sun; Ara means Mars; Arki means Saturn. Saturn is well-known. This means: for a Brahmin, it should be on Sunday; for a Kshatriya, on Tuesday; for a Vaishya, on Saturday; and for a Shudra, also on Saturday. It is mentioned that for a Shudra, there are twelve sacraments samskaras, but they are performed without Vedic mantras original: "amantra-iti", excluding the study of the Vedas, vows, the sacred thread ceremony upanayana, and the great vows.
For all social classes, the tonsure can be done during the three specific lunar mansions and the three "Mercury" mansions refers to specific groups of nakshatras. It should be performed on Friday or Monday during the waxing half of the month shukla-paksha. On Monday during the waning half krishna-paksha, it is highly condemned because the Moon is weak original: "kshinatvat". On this, Narada says: Avoid the "empty" lunar days rikta-tithis and the junctions of the month. Brihaspati says: Monday is good during the waxing phase but despised during the waning phase. Wednesday is said to be auspicious, unless Mercury is joined with malefic planets. Regarding the days of malefic planets: for Brahmins, the Sun is auspicious; for Kshatriyas, Mars; for Shudras, Saturn.
With which lunar mansions should this be done? With Antya Revati, Aja Ashvini, Aditya Punarvasu and Pushya, Shakra Jyeshtha, and Indu Mrigashirsha. Further, which others? With Ina Hasta and Hari Shravana, and the three mansions following each of them. Thus says Narada: From Dasra Ashvini...
...the lunar mansions of Jupiter, the Moon, and the "Flower" Pushya and Fire Krittika are auspicious for this. In the ritual of tonsure, one should use the three mansions starting from Hasta and the three starting from the mansion of Vishnu Shravana.
Regarding the seventh house jamitre during tonsure: the Sun, Mars, Saturn, and Venus in the seventh house bring death. Ina is the Sun; Ara is Mars; Arki (the offspring of the Sun) is Saturn; and Venus is well-known. These four are givers of death. Vasishtha speaks of their specific results: the Sun or Saturn in the seventh house causes death; Venus or Saturn brings destruction; Saturn in the ninth house bhagya-sthana is also mentioned. Although a general result of death is stated for all four, there is no fault if they are in their own signs.
Except for Venus original: "gata-kavi", all planets in the eighth house are givers of death. Those who have "lost Venus" meaning Venus is not in the eighth, if they are in the eighth house, cause death. On this, Brihaspati says: All planets in the eighth house are not desired, except for Venus. Venus in the eighth house nidhana grants all types of wealth and prosperity to the child.
Benefic planets original: "sadgraha", when they are without the Moon original: "vyabja", are desired and auspicious in the last house the 12th house. Narada states: For tonsure and the first feeding of solid food annaprashana, benefic planets in the 8th or 12th houses are praised. However, there is another statement: "except for the 8th and 12th houses," which refers to the Moon. Other strengths of the rising sign are as previously described. Avoid the night, the twilights, and the "empty" lunar days for the Moon and the Ascendant. Narada’s word is: the sixth lunar day, the full moon, the eighth day, the days of malefic planets, the night, the empty days, the sixth day, the twilight, and the birth mansion should be avoided by the wise. ९
