...with the moon in the auspicious constellations. When Jupiter original: "guru" is situated in the Ascendant the zodiac sign rising on the eastern horizon at the moment of the rite, and the houses are occupied by beneficent deities, and the Ascendant is free from the influence of cruel planets. ॥ 15 ॥
The first outing from the house nishkramana for a son should be performed in the fourth month, under a lunar mansion prescribed for travel. Likewise, ear-piercing karnavedha should be performed under the lunar mansions of Hasta, Ashvini, Magha, Pushya, Revati, Punarvasu, Shravana, Anuradha, or Jyeshtha. This should be done when Jupiter is in the Ascendant, malefic planets are in the third or eleventh houses, and the Ascendant is free from the influence of cruel planets. In the designated month, under the child's birth constellation, one should perform the first feeding of solid food on an auspicious day. The strength of the time and the lunar day should be examined. ॥ 16 ॥
The first feeding of solid food annaprashana for a child should be performed in the sixth month, on a day when the five limbs of the calendar the Panchang: lunar day, weekday, constellation, yoga, and karana are pure. It should be done under the constellations of Revati, Ashvini, Hasta, Shravana, Dhanishta, Punarvasu, Pushya, Rohini, Mrigashira, or the three "Uttara" constellations.
If the Sun is in a quadrant house the 1st, 4th, 7th, or 10th houses, or the eighth, twelfth, fifth, or ninth houses at the time of the first feeding, the child will suffer from stomach ailments. If Mars original: "bhauma" is in those positions, the child will suffer from diseases of the bile. If Saturn is in those positions, the child will suffer from "wind" original: "vata," referring to nervous or digestive issues diseases. If the waning Moon is in those positions, the child will become a meat-eater, and the same occurs if the rite is performed on an "empty" original: "rikta," the 4th, 9th, or 14th lunar days lunar day. If Mercury is in those positions 8, it is like Saturn. If the Full Moon is in those positions, the child will be highly energetic and prosperous. ॥ 17 ॥
If the Sun is in the Ascendant at the time the child’s first feeding is performed, or if it is in the quadrant, eighth,
twelfth, fifth, or ninth houses, then there will be disease in the belly. If Mars is in those places, then he will be sickly with bile. If Saturn is in those places, then he will be sickly with wind. If the waning Moon is in those places, then he will be a meat-eater, as well as on "empty" lunar days. If Mercury is situated in those places, it is like Saturn. If the full Moon is situated in those places, he becomes a great doer and remains happy.
If Jupiter is in a quadrant or a trine the 5th or 9th houses, the child will be a "consumer" one who enjoys life's pleasures. If the Moon is in the sixth or eighth house, it brings death. ॥ 18 ॥
If Jupiter is in the quadrant and other such houses, he becomes a "consumer" of life; if death-bringing planets are in those places, then he becomes one who enjoys life's fruit interpretive: the text contrasts Jupiter’s blessing with the threat of malefic planets. If Rahu the North Node of the moon is in the quadrant and other places, he will be a "stealer of food." If the Moon is in the sixth or eighth house, it is a bringer of death.
One should always perform the consecration of a house, the placement of a deity, and the binding of the sacred thread maunjibandhana—but not during the forbidden times. These rites are forbidden when Jupiter or Venus original: "sphujit" are combust too close to the sun to be seen, or when a comet original: "ketu" has risen, or during an eclipse, or on the New Moon or the eighth lunar day. ॥ 19 ॥
When Jupiter or Venus are in their descendant signs, or within seven days of an eclipse, the tonsure ceremony chudakarma and other seven sacred rites should be avoided. Likewise, when Jupiter or Venus are in retrograde. A "young" Venus Venus shortly after it becomes visible should be avoided for ten days or five days...
