When Jupiter is located in the second, fifth, seventh, ninth, or eleventh house...
Regarding the fourth, seventh, and eighth positions: even with Jupiter in these places, a marriage bond may be performed. When Jupiter original: "Guru" is situated in the second, fifth, seventh, ninth, or eleventh [houses from the birth Moon], marriage Vivaha is auspicious. In other cases, as mentioned previously, there is a flaw original: "dosha" in entering into marriage. According to some opinions, a union with Jupiter and Mercury is considered auspicious. ॥ 1 ॥
Regarding the Six Divisional Charts Shadvarga; a system of dividing a zodiac sign into sub-sections to determine planetary strength: one should consider the portions such as the half, the third, the ninth, the twelfth, and the thirtieth. In the second [house], a gentle or benefic planet Saumya-graha; planets like Venus, Mercury, or Jupiter that generally bring positive results is favorable.
The Ascendant Lagna; the zodiac sign rising on the eastern horizon at a specific moment should be considered in relation to the Seventh House original: "Saptama" The 7th house represents the spouse and partnerships.. The ruler of half that sign is the lord of the seventh. Whether that lord is a benefic original: "Shubha" or a malefic Krura; literally "cruel," referring to planets like Mars or Saturn must be considered. This is the analysis of the seventh portion.
Furthermore, according to the texts of the sage Devala, the classification of signs into twenty parts should not be ignored. In sequence, these are the Half-sign Hora, Third-part Dreshkana, Ninth-part Navamsha, Twelfth-part Dwadasamsha, and Thirtieth-part Trimshamsha. The lords of these portions, as previously mentioned, are the celestial bodies. The lord who is a benefic for that specific portion should be accepted. The Lord of the Hour Hora-adhipati is the primary consideration among all.
For women, the Ninth-part Navamsha belonging to Virgo, Gemini, or Pisces indicates a virtuous bride. In the remaining signs, she is also said to be virtuous and bring wealth. The Ninth-parts begin from Aries for the signs Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius. For Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn, they begin from Capricorn. For Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius, they begin from Libra. For Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces, they begin from Cancer. Thus, the Ninth-parts proceed in order. Each sign consists of thirty degrees 13 which must be known. The method for determining when one portion ends and the next begins is now explained. There, the movement from the first degree of the Ascendant to the thirtieth must be understood.
Planet
Therefore, all degrees should be multiplied by two hundred. When divided by sixty, the result gives the [divisional] portions. If a planet is situated in the third portion established in the third part of the sign, then before that third portion, the previous two portions are multiplied by two hundred... The text describes a mathematical formula for calculating the precise entry of a planet into a sub-division. These become the degrees, and the remainder are the minutes. Then, by dividing by sixty, the minutes are determined, and after that, the next portion begins. Thus, the method for knowing the time-units Ghatika; a traditional Indian unit of time equal to 24 minutes within the portions is described.
At sunrise, in an odd-numbered sign Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius, Aquarius, the first half is ruled by the Sun original: "Surya" and the second by the Moon original: "Mridanka". In an even-numbered sign Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn, Pisces, the reverse is true. For the Third-parts Dreshkana, the rulers are the lords of the first, fifth, and ninth signs from that sign. The Ninth-parts Navamsha were described previously. The Twelfth-part Dwadasamsha is the ruler of the sign itself and those following it. The lords of the Thirtieth-parts Trimshamsha should be known as follows:
In an odd sign, the first five degrees belong to Mars original: "Bhauma". The next five degrees belong to Saturn original: "Shani". The remaining portions belong to Jupiter original: "Guru", Mercury original: "Budha", and Venus original: "Shukra" respectively, in spans of eight, seven, and five degrees. 15 These are the lords of the five divisions. In an even sign, these rulers are known in the reverse order.
At the time of birth or for an auspicious ceremony, the house of the Ascendant must be pure. To ensure success in the work to be performed, the astrologer should examine the Ascendant, its portions, and its strength. Whether a malefic original: "Krura" planet is situated in the twelfth house or if benefics original: "Saumya" are present, these factors determine the outcome for the person performing the rite...
