...auspicious. In this way, the planetary clusters original: "rashi kuta" are identified by the mouth of the planets as auspicious. If the hand is involved with the sign's disposition, then one should perform the threefold ceremony. ॥ 1 ॥
...is heavy Guru; a long or heavy syllable/unit or light Laghu; a short or light unit, then according to the writing of the Supreme Lord, it is capable. One should refine the heavy units by the heavy ones, thus forming the glorious site-layout original: "Vastu". The method of the waters and the earth are equal here; the non-dual mantra begins with the right-side posture and the writing of the location. ॥ 7 ॥
The sixteen names of the houses These names refer to different architectural configurations of a building based on where the open galleries or verandas are placed are now told. First, four "heavies" should be established. Then, "lights" should be placed below the "heavies." The front and right sides should be filled with "heavies" until everything becomes "light"; this is how the expansion is done. Thus, sixteen variations arise. Among them, the appearance of the "light" units is shown in the example of the veranda Alinda; an open gallery or veranda typical of traditional Indian houses as follows:
The names are: Bhava, Dhanya, Jaya, Nanda, Kanta, Manorama, Sumukha, Durmukha, Kura, Supaksha, Dhanada, Nasha, Valinda, Vipula, Vijaya, and Shala. ॥ 71 ॥
In the four directions, if there is a "heavy" Guru unit, the house is named Dhruva.
If the veranda is located only in the Southern direction, it is called Jaya.
If the verandas are in the South and West, it is called Nanda.
If the veranda is in the West, it is called Ratna.
If the verandas are in the East and West, it is called Kanta.
If the verandas are in the South and West, it is called Manorama.
If the verandas are in the East, South, and West, it is called Sumukha.
If there is only a veranda in the North, it is called Kura.
If the verandas are in the East and North, it is called Kura. The text repeats Kura, possibly a scribal variation for a North-East configuration.
If the verandas are in the South and North, it is called Supaksha.
If the verandas are in the West and North, it is called Huta.
If the verandas are in the East, North, and West, it is called Nasha.
If the verandas are in the South and North, it is called Vipula.
If there are verandas in all directions, it is known as Vijaya.
These are the names of the sixteen types of single-story houses.
...as ordained for the land. Now, the auspicious moment for starting the house original: "Griha Arambha Muhurta" is told:
The commencement of a house is auspicious during the constellations Nakshatras; lunar mansions of Shatataraka, Mrigashira, Swati, Hasta, Pushya, and the "fixed" constellations Rohini, Uttara Phalguni, Uttara Ashadha, and Uttara Bhadrapada, provided they are joined with auspicious planetary days. It is favorable when the malefic planets are in the 3rd, 6th, or 11th houses, and the benefic planets are in the quadrants Kendra; 1st, 4th, 7th, 10th houses, or the 5th and 9th houses.
House construction should NOT be done when the Sun is in Virgo, Sagittarius, Gemini, or Pisces. ॥ 72 ॥
The thirteen constellations mentioned—Shatataraka, Mriga, Sravana, Swati, Hasta, Pushya, and the fixed ones—are praised for starting a house, as stated by the sage Varaha. If malefic planets are in the 5th house and benefic planets are in the quadrants or trines, and the ascendant Lagna is a "fixed" sign, the house construction should be performed. If the Sun has entered Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces, or Gemini, the start of house construction must not be done.
When cruel planets are in the 8th house, or the Lord of the Ascendant is combust rendered invisible by the Sun or weak, it is unfavorable. On the fourth lunar day, or on Tuesdays and Sundays, or when the moon is in a certain position, it is best to avoid entry. Initiation is auspicious when the planets are well-placed. ॥ 73 ॥
Regarding the color of the Ascendant at the time of starting the house: if the sign is unfavorable, it may lead to the death of the master of the house. Likewise, if Jupiter, Venus, and the Moon are combust, or if the Sun is defeated, one should wait. Now, for entering a new house original: "Nava Griha Pravesha", avoid the 4th, 9th, and 14th lunar days, as well as Sundays and Tuesdays. One should enter the house on a day when the lunar strength is high and the constellation is auspicious for starting. The entry should be done under "gentle" or "friendly" constellations.
For kings, the land should be given... for a prince, a sharp constellation is used, but for a king's wife, the constellation Vishakha is forbidden...
