Manual for the Sacrifice to the Nine Planets and the Propitiation of Ganesha

Om. [This should be performed] with washed rice grains original: kta-tandulaih. Just as the God of Gods referring to the supreme deity and the Guardians of the Directions original: dikpala, the eight or ten deities who protect the spatial reaches are the protectors of the world... ॥ 13 ॥

Ganesha and the others, as well as the five deities original: pancanani deva; likely referring to the five primary forms of divinity: Shiva, Vishnu, Devi, Ganesha, and Surya and humans: Fire original: Agni is in the brilliance [of the South-East]; then the Sun original: Surya; and to the North is the Teacher original: Guru, the planet Jupiter... ॥ 14 ॥

The Waters original: Apa are to the North; the Moon original: Soma and Uma the goddess Parvati are to the South; the Moon Yama The gloss "ya" suggests a correction or alternative for Yama, the god of death is to the West; and the sage Markandeya is remembered in the South. ॥ 15 ॥

Vishnu should be established in the East; Mercury original: Budha is to be placed there as well; and Narayana is remembered among the five. Indra is to the West and the North-West, while Brahma is to be established above. ॥ 16 ॥

The Goddess original: Ishani is in the West; Venus original: Shukra and Indra are likewise in the South. The Lord of Progeny original: Prajapati is in the South-West; Ushanas another name for Venus is in the North-East; and Yama is in the South-East. ॥ 17 ॥

According to the wise, the shadow-planet Rahu is in the South-West; Time original: Kala is in the [direction of] the Invincible One original: Aparajita. The comet-planet Ketu is in the South-East y; Brahma and the divine scribe Chitragupta are also in the South-West. ॥ 18 ॥

Indra, Death, Nirriti deity of decay/South-West, Varuna god of the oceans/West, Wind original: Vayu, the Moon, and Isha Shiva along with Brahma at the back are proclaimed here. ॥ 19 ॥

Ganesha, Durga, the Three-Eyed One Shiva, the serpent-king Vasuki, and the Wind-gods original: Maruts are likewise [invoked]. ॥ 100 ॥

In the North-East portion of the diagram, [I invoke Mercury]: yellow, shaped like an arrow, facing North, born in Magadha modern-day Bihar, riding a lion, of the lineage of Atri, four-armed, holding a mace, a shield, a bow, and a discus; I invoke Mercury original: Budha. ॥ 7 ॥
