In the western circle, associated with the foreign lands original: mleccha, shaped like a bow and facing south, is the deity from the Saurashtra region modern-day Gujarat. He is of the Kashyapa lineage, fierce in nature, mounted upon a vulture, and possesses four arms. ॥ 12 ॥
Holding a trident, an arrow, and a bow, I invoke Saturn original: Shani. In the South-Western circle is the form that faces south in that direction. ॥ 13 ॥
From the Barbara region, of the Paithinasa lineage, mounted upon a lion and four-armed, holding a sword, a jewel, and a shield, I invoke Rahu the deity of the ascending lunar node. ॥ 13 ॥ The verse numbering repeats in the original manuscript
In the North-Western circle, born with the banner of the foreigners and a pleasant face, originating from the Antarvedi region the land between the Ganges and Yamuna rivers, seated upon pigeons, and belonging to the Jaimini lineage... ॥ 14 ॥
...with two knees bent, holding clubs, and having a smoky hue, I invoke the Ketus the deities of the descending lunar node; often pluralized in older texts. The lords of sacrifice, the supreme deities, the guardians of the directions, and the guardians of the world... ॥ 15 ॥
Ganesha and the others, as well as the five deities and the humans: their births, lineages original: gotra, sacred fires, colors, and their respective places... ॥ 16 ॥
Through lack of knowledge, one may perform rites for peace, but if the deities are insulted by such actions [they are ineffective]. The planets are remembered in their various states: Superior-Middle, then Inferior, then as a Child, and then slightly more than that. ॥ 17 ॥
Middle-aged and Young; these are the states in which the Sun original: Surya and the others are sequentially remembered. Their lineages are: Kashyapa, Atri, Bharadvaja, Gautama, and Angirasa. ॥ 18 ॥
The lineages of Kashyapa, Paithinasa, and Jaimini follow in order. The Sun original: Arka was born in the Kalinga region; the Moon original: Chandra and Mercury original: Budha were born near the Yamuna. ॥ 19 ॥
Mars original: Angaraka is from Avanti modern Ujjain; Mercury is also remembered as being from Kosala. Saturn original: Shanaishchara is from Saurashtra, Rahu is from the Barbara region, and Ketu... ॥ 20 ॥
...is from Antarvedi. These are the birthplaces of the planets. On the seventh lunar day, the Moon original: Uma-ja, born of the Goddess/Moon associations was born; on the eighth, Saturn. ॥ 21 ॥
On the ninth, Rahu was born; on the tenth, Mars original: Mangaja; on the eleventh, Jupiter original: Guru; and on the twelfth, Mercury original: Budha. ॥ 22 ॥
On the thirteenth, the birth of Venus original: Soma-ratri, likely referring to the planet Shukra occurred on the full moon. As long as they are not visible to the naked eye, those are the Ketus born. ॥ 23 ॥
For the Sun original: Aditya, the birth star is Vishakha; for the Moon, it is Krittika; for Mars original: Bhumaja, 'Son of the Earth', it is Purva Ashadha...
