"The Protector Indra," "O Agni, your..." "In this..." "The highest Varuna..." "With the teams of horses..." "We, Soma..." "That Lord..." "O Agni, Rudra..." "Kind Earth..." These are the mantras for the Guardians of the Directions Dikpāla; the deities protecting the cardinal and ordinal points. ॥ ॥
"Indra, the giver of gifts," "O Lord of Prayer," "Around," "O Vayu," "Varuna," "Provides." These are the mantras for the Protectors of the World Lokapāla. ॥ ॥
"Of the hosts, you..." "To the Knower of Births," "By the master of this," "O Lord of the Home," "Towards the Maruts," "Whose indeed." These are the Mantras for the Five Deities Pañca-devatā. ॥ ॥

"The Protector," "May there be peace for us," "The One-Footed Goat" original: Aja-ekapāda, "The Serpent of the Deep" original: Ahirbudhnya, "The Nourisher" original: Pūṣan, "Follow the cattle," "Wealthy," "Around." These are the twenty-eight mantras for the Deities of the Constellations Nakṣatradevatā; the lunar mansions. ॥ ॥
"O Lord of Prayer," "This Vishnu," "What to Rudra." These are the Mantras for Men original: Nara-mantras; likely referring to ancestors or human-centric deities. ॥ ॥
The beginnings of the Vedas, the Three-Eyed One original: Tryambaka; a name for Shiva, the goddess of wealth original: Lakṣmī, and the goddess of wisdom original: Sarasvatī; the Storm Gods original: Maruts, the Rain Cloud original: Parjanya, the elemental deities original: Vasus, the All-Gods original: Viśvedevas, and the Twin Sons of the Dawn original: Aśvins. Along with the Gayatri the most sacred Vedic chant and the Great Utterances Mahāvyāhṛtis; the sacred syllables Bhūr, Bhuvaḥ, Svaḥ, these are the Established Deities Sthāpita-devatā. ॥ ॥
"I praise Agni" Rigveda 1.1.1, "For strength, you" Yajurveda 1.1, "O Agni, come" Samaveda 1.1, "May the goddesses be for our direction" Atharvaveda 1.1.1. These represent the Vedas and others. [The mantras for] the Three-Eyed One, "Like sifted grain," "O purifying ones," the Maruts, "Of the Maruts," "O Parjanya, protect," "Sing forth," "By which our seven," the All-Gods, "That very one," "Near to," "Of the Sun," "Man," "Earth, Atmosphere, Heaven." This is the Sacrifice for the Established Deities Sthāpita-homa. ॥ ॥
Afterward, the sacrificer yajamāna; the patron of the ritual should perform the concluding rites. For the deities mentioned in the mantras, a four-fold offering [of clarified butter] should be given. ॥ 72 ॥
