By repeating the mantras beginning with "Vam" the seed syllable for water over the sacred water vessels (Kalashas) and all others, then, while maintaining physical contact with them, he chants the prayer. For the preliminary consecration Adhivasana; a rite to imbue an object with divine presence of the gods, the ritual should be performed using the verse "By what [favor]..." original: Kaya kaya hi; likely referring to Rigveda 4.31.1, a verse used to invoke divine presence. Then, for all the ritual vessels, having placed the oil-receptacle with the mantra "You are the essence of oil," and having set it down with "I place you for the sake of strength," he performs the Installation of Ganesha original: Ganapati-sthapana with the following prayer:
"We meditate upon that Supreme Spirit; we contemplate that one with the beautiful curved trunk. May that tusker (Ganesha) inspire our thoughts." This is the Ganesha Gayatri, a sacred formula for meditation.
"We meditate upon the mother of the world; we contemplate the one wearing a garland of desires. May Gauri inspire our thoughts." By this, the Installation of Gauri is performed. Then, having performed the installation of the Nine Planets (Navagrahas) and those who are diminished, he applies the specific mantras for each. He should say: "May Ganesha, Ambika (the Mother), and the deities of the Nine Planets, together with those installed, be well-established and grantors of boons."
Then follows the Invocation (Avahana):
"O elephant-faced one, leader of the celestial hosts, destroyer of all obstacles! O big-bellied one, son of Shiva, come hither, O Leader of the Ganas!"
"I invoke Gauri, the daughter of the snowy mountains, the giver of boons, the goddess beloved of the formidable Bhairava, and the mother of the big-bellied Ganesha."
Then follows the Brief Worship. Among these, the specific procedures mentioned in the Nirunda text should be performed. Based on the traditional injunction, "Mita, Sammita, Shala, and Katankata, Kushmanda and Rajaputra, and the Mother (Ambika) are to be worshipped," the worship should be conducted here focusing on the form of Ganesha and the primary deities, concluding with the offering of fruits and other items.
Then, having performed the ritual up to the offerings of clarified butter, there is a specific instruction mentioned in the Darshanibodha. Having established the seat for the ritual, one should perform the worship of Ganesha along with Gauri in the eastern part of that seat. In the northeast direction original: Ishanya of the sacrificial ground, leaving a space of three fingers' breadth, one should follow the measurement of the "hand-span" as stated in the Katyayana Sutra a foundational manual for Vedic rituals composed by the sage Katyayana.
