Results of the Twelve Houses (Dvadasha Bhavanan Phalani)

## Salutations to the Illustrious Ganesha. Now, the Results of the Twelve Houses are Determined.

The wise know the twelfth house to be the mind, and from there the zodiacal cycle proceeds. These twelve signs should be arranged clearly according to the sequence of the "left-limb path" original: "vāmāṅga-mārga-kramāt." This refers to the anti-clockwise placement of signs in a North Indian style birth chart.. When the planets, those clear and illustrious inhabitants of the signs, are stationed there, a man’s good fortune should be spoken of by the wise through the tradition of Horoscopy original: "Horā-āgama." Horā is the Sanskrit term for astrology, derived from the Greek "ora" (hour).. || 1 ||

One's physical form, innate nature, and the measurements of one’s own body are known through the first house; as are happiness, misery, and even courage; and indeed, the mark of victory—all this is surely found here. || 2 ||

If the Ascendant original: "Lagna." The point of the zodiac rising on the eastern horizon at the time of birth. is beheld by all the "sky-travelers" original: "khagaiḥ." A poetic term for planets., the person becomes powerful, endowed with playful grace. He is said to be a lord of men, possessing a vast lifespan, a conqueror who destroys the families of his enemies. || 3 ||

If the "gentle planets" original: "saumyāḥ." Benefic planets like Jupiter, Venus, and Mercury. are in their own signs in the Ascendant, they make the newborn a king; without them, the person is joined with poverty, sorrow, and great pride, like a wanderer among stones. || 4 ||

From the Ascendant, if the "cruel planets" original: "papaiḥ." Malefic planets like Saturn and Mars. are not joined in the sixth or eighth houses, the person becomes a minister, a lord of the earth, or a master of the "Sandalwood Land." original: "śrīkhaṇḍa-hūnām patiḥ." This may refer to a specific historical region or a title of high prestige. Such a person is like a god, fearless, endowed with beauty and happiness; these words should be known as the speech of the great lords of men, who are always pleasing to mortals. || 5 ||

If the Sun, Mars, and Saturn are situated in the body meaning the first house/Lagna, they cause blood disorders, paleness of the hands, and great heat; through the movements of Mars, they are known to cause diseases. || 6 ||

When the lord of the ninth house is combined with the Moon and stays in the head, there is a blow to the head or a disease caused by the local ruler; likewise, there may be ailments of the navel or the stomach. || 7 ||

If the Sun is combined with the lord of the house, and situated between the Sun and Mars, and is not seen by its own master, the person suffers from diarrhea, fear in the eyes, or diseases of the ears, fire in the stomach, or pain in the waist. || 8 ||

Jupiter, the Moon, and Mercury, if well-placed in the body, make a man desirable...

## Salutations to the Illustrious Ganesha. Now, the Results of Debilitated Planets.

A man becomes a servant if the "Day-Lord" the Sun is in debilitation original: "Nicha." The sign where a planet is at its weakest; for the Sun, this is Libra., and he is abandoned by his own people. If the "Night-Maker" the Moon is so placed, he becomes harsh and fierce. He whose planets are in debilitation is born into a low state, becoming contrary to his own kin and poor. || 1 ||

When Venus is in his debilitation, even a man who resembles snow fair or handsome becomes like a dead man in his own eyes. If Jupiter is fallen, his character is ruined and his wealth is gone. If Rahu the North Node of the Moon is so placed, his voice is censured and harsh. || 2 ||

Men with these faults become very miserable, poor, and live through the charity of others. When Jupiter is in its lowest point, one wanders with various aims, serving others and listening to the commands of others. || 3 ||

If five planets are in their houses of debilitation, the person eats the scraps of others, even if he were born a learned priest original: "dvija." Twice-born. He becomes a servant to thousands, even if he were a lord of planets. || 4 ||

Now, the Results of Exalted Planets.

The "Day-Lord" the Sun, when exalted original: "Uchcha." The sign where a planet is at its maximum strength; for the Sun, this is Aries., makes a man great, fierce, and wealthy, like a sea filled with jewels. Mars in exaltation makes a person unbearable to enemies, a hero, and exceedingly energetic. || 5 ||

The "Son of the Moon" Mercury, when reaching exaltation, makes one intelligent, skillful, and a knower of the arts. Jupiter, the Teacher of the Gods, when exalted, makes one a possessor of great scientific knowledge and a follower of righteousness original: "dharma.". || 6 ||

Venus makes one full of playfulness, laughter, and children, well-dressed, and dear to women. When the "Son of the Day-Lord" Saturn is exalted and well-disposed, one gains a chief position in the service of a king. || 7 ||

Such are the results declared for the exalted planets. Two exalted planets give fame, happiness, and wealth. Three give wisdom and brilliance, making one a commander of an army or a city. || 8 ||

With four planets reaching exaltation, great fame and the prosperity of a king are attained. || 9 ||

He becomes an expander of the fame of kings, the best among men, and a leader of the people. || 10 ||

With six exalted planets, one becomes a king of fierce power, possessed of great strength and all types of happiness. Such a one rules the earth as far as the ocean; I say this is true when the planets are exalted. || 11 ||

Even one planet, if famously strong and glorious...
