Results of the Twelve Houses (Dvadasha Bhavanan Phalani)

...according to the opinion of Yama regarding these matters. || 7 || When Jupiter original: "Jiva" is in the Ascendant original: "Lagna", Saturn original: "Sauri" is situated in the second house, and Rahu is in the place of siblings the 3rd house, then one's father does not survive. || 8 || If the Moon is not seen by any of the three malefic planets, the destruction of the mother is brought about quickly, even during auspicious days. || 9 || If a malefic is in the Ascendant, a malefic is in the twelfth house, and even if a benefic is situated in the second house, it brings suffering to the father from birth and causes the destruction of the family. || 10 ||

Now, the Fourth House: Concerning the State of Happiness

When malefics are in the fourth house, they take away the mother’s happiness and she does not live long. If afflicted by such planets, the native surely suffers from pain and diseases of the stomach, such as wind or gastric trouble original: "jatharavata-gado," a common Ayurvedic reference to digestive air; so it has been said. || 11 || Those planets situated in the Hibuka: the fourth house, from the Greek 'hypogeion' meaning 'underground'—if they are cruel—cause burning of the body, heart disease, and great distress. They also bring about fear of kings meaning government or legal authorities, sorrow, disorders of the wind, and danger from water or fire. However, if the fourth house original: "jala-griha," literally the 'water-house' is occupied by benefics and joined by the lords of the lunar mansions, then despite some stomach ailments or anxieties related to water and wind, there is an increase in prosperity. || 12 ||

Benefic planets situated in the House of Happiness bring wealth and the joy of kinsmen; they grant the favor of kings, the enjoyment of comforts, and provide fine beds, vehicles, and food. Even if the lord of the house is in a debilitated state original: "nichago," in a sign where its power is lowest, if a benefic planet is present and joined by Mercury original: "Saumya", happiness is generated through the favor of high-born men or royalty. || 13 || If the lord of the house is in a debilitated sign at the time of birth, or if no planet occupies it, and the lord of the self the 1st house lord is in the Ascendant, death is indicated. A person born without clothes. || 14 || If Mars original: "Dharanisuta," son of the Earth or Saturn original: "Ravisuta," son of the Sun is in the tenth house, or if the Sun's son is in the fourth house, it brings the destruction of the mother and father, provided that Jupiter original: "Devaguru" does not aspect them. || 15 ||

If a malefic is in the house of wealth at the time of marriage, the person becomes sickly, deprived of the comfort of clothes, and may be a servant to a wicked king. Such a person born with the fourth house afflicted becomes separated from their kinsmen. || 16 || If the Moon original: "Vidhu" is in the house of kinsmen the 4th house, the person is always devoted to charity, endowed with wealth, friends, and a virtuous mind, finding happiness in the joy of others.

...and he is endowed with a wife. || 17 || If Mars original: "Vakra" is in the fourth house, the person is deprived of happiness, devoid of the joys of marriage and honor, and is surrounded by great sorrows. || 18 || If Mercury occupies the fourth house, the person is a member of assemblies original: "sabhasado," a counselor or courtier, possesses beautiful vehicles, and is a destroyer of enemies. If the Moon is in the fourth house along with Saturn, the person's body remains healthy for many years and they remain under their own control. || 19 || One whose fourth house is occupied by the Guru of the Gods Jupiter becomes a wise man, possessing the happiness of kinsmen, vehicles, and enjoyments. He is victorious over groups of enemies and plants trees that offer much shade. || 16 Note: numbering error in original manuscript || If the son of Bhrigu Venus is in the fourth house, the man is a hero, possessing wealth and many vehicles. He has a beautiful form and is a scholar of many arts, being the best among men. || 20 || A man born with Saturn original: "Pangu," the slow-moving one in the fourth house is sickly in childhood, but becomes a leader among men, well-nourished in body, yet later loses his happiness. He is conquered by women, troubled by enemies, and becomes thin or lame. || 21 ||

According to Yavaneshwara The "Lord of the Greeks," a seminal figure in early Indian astrology:

When the Sun is in the place of water the 4th house, it causes the depletion of the father's wealth and house. The Moon in that position grants happiness and the stability of the mother’s household. || 22 || Jupiter original: "Jiva" causes the acquisition of the father's estate and a dwelling place among friends and kinsmen. Venus original: "Shukra" grants the increase of comforts, wealth, and a household full of good fortune. || 20 numbering restarts || Mercury original: "Budha" provides knowledge and the joy of friendship, and such a person is skilled in manual arts original: "hasta vilasam". However, if Mars original: "Kuja" is there, the person wanders in great sorrow and suffers the loss of their home and residence. || 21 || If malefics occupy the house and are not aspected by benefics, the native may live in the houses of others. While such a person may attain great influence with the King, they are usually abandoned by their own kinsmen and live in sorrow. || 22 ||

Thus says Asuracharya The "Teacher of the Asuras," another ancient astrological authority:

If the Sun is in the lower regions original: "Rasatala," the 4th house and joined with the Moon, the person born is devoid of kinsmen, children, and happiness, and possesses a very dull nature. || 23 || One who is born with the Sun thus placed is without friends, deprived of all happiness, and is considered contemptible. || 24 ||
