Each side Sanskrit: pakṣa; referring here to the "Pure" and "Mixed" categories of the lunar days is threefold. Thus, there are nine variations for the "Mixed" category, and nine others for the "Pure" category, making eighteen variations in total, as follows:
1. Pure Equal-Equal-Twelfth original: śuddha-sama-dvādaśī-samā; indicates a "pure" 11th day where both the 11th and 12th days are of standard duration

Regarding these, first we consider the Vaishnava Decision The rules followed by worshippers of Vishnu, who are particularly strict regarding the timing of the Ekadashi fast:
If the Eleventh Day Sanskrit: Ekādaśī begins more than two muhurtas about 96 minutes before sunrise, it is considered Pure Sanskrit: śuddhā. However, if the Tenth Day Sanskrit: Daśamī enters even by a single kala a very small fraction of time after 56 ghatikas about 22 hours and 24 minutes into the day, it is considered Mixed Sanskrit: viddhā.
The Mixed day should always be abandoned. Among the Pure variations, in the latter six—specifically the sixth, seventh, eighth, and ninth types—the later day should be chosen for fasting.
