Now, for the remainder of the chapter, the general and specific technical names of the "threads" original: "tantvādīnām"; referring to the components or houses of an astrological chart and other elements are stated. First, the names for the Ascendant and other houses—such as "Body" and so on—as well as the "House" Bhāva: a "house" or "state of being" in an astrological chart names for all of them are expressed in the Shardulavikridita meter Shardulavikridita: a classical Sanskrit poetic meter meaning "the play of the tiger," consisting of 19 syllables per line starting with "Body, wealth, valor..."
Regarding the phrase "Starting from the Ascendant," the grammatical construction implies a sequence original: "lyap-lope pañcamī"; a technical rule in Sanskrit grammar where a case ending replaces a dropped participle. Starting from the Ascendant, the twelve houses are declared or spoken of in their proper order. There, the first house—the Ascendant—is the Body or the "Body House." The second and third houses are Wealth and Valor, respectively. The fourth and fifth houses are Happiness and the Child. The sixth is the Enemy. The seventh house is the Spouse. The eighth is Death. The ninth is Fortune. The tenth is the Seat of the Kingdom. The eleventh and twelfth are Gain and Loss.
Body, wealth, valor, happiness, child, enemy, spouse, death,
fortune, kingdom-status—these are declared in order, followed by gain and loss, starting from the Ascendant. ||
There are twelve houses; among them, the "Body" is considered by living beings to be the refuge of happiness—
Therefore, the wise should determine the results known as auspicious or inauspicious from that [the Ascendant] alone. || 5 ||
The Ascendant is also called Form, Limb, Body, Arising, Physique, and the Foundation or the First. Next,
Wealth is named One's Own, Treasury, Purpose, Family, and Riches. Then, the Co-born is termed Brother and the Third-House-Sign. ||
The Fourth is called Mother, Underworld, the Fourth, the Center-of-Sky original: "hibuka," a term derived from the Greek "hypogeion", Home, Friend, Carriage, Vehicle, Bond, and Water or Fluid. Next, the Child is named Intellect, Knowledge, and Offspring. || 6 ||
Regarding those houses, the "Body" (the first house) of living beings is considered the "refuge of happiness" or the basis of all well-being. Therefore, the wise—that is, the astrologers—must make their determinations of the results known as "auspicious" or "inauspicious" starting from that very Body (the Ascendant house) in the manner that will be described. || 5 ||
"The Ascendant" refers to the rising sign, which the ancient Sages said is expressed by terms like the "East." It is described by the following synonyms: Form, Limb, Body, Arising, Physique, and Foundation. These are all terms for the Ascendant, constituting the first house. Immediately after that comes Wealth, which is also called "One's Own," "Treasury," and "Purpose." This means that the synonyms "One's Own" and so on are used to name "Wealth" (the second house); this logic applies to the following houses as well. Thus, the "Co-born" or "Brother" and the "Third-House-Sign" duścikya: an ancient technical term for the third house refer to the third house. The "Mother," "Underworld," "Fourth," "Center-of-the-Sky," "Home," "Friend," "Carriage," and "Vehicle" are names...
