...increase occurs; if weak, it is remembered as causing harm. In this way, in all houses, the growth or loss must be spoken of by experts based on the strength of the house and the house lord. According to the Sarvarthachintamani Sarvarthachintamani: literally "The Gem of Realizing All Purposes," a 17th-century Sanskrit classic on predictive astrology, from the House of the Body (the Ascendant) onwards, malefic planets located in the houses of Enemies, Death, or Loss cause the destruction of those houses. Benefic planets, when placed in those same positions, give their respective positive results. Wise men say: if the lord of a house is located in the 6th, 8th, or 12th These are known as "Dusthanas" or difficult houses: the 6th (enemies/illness), 8th (death/obstacles), and 12th (loss/expenditure), they declare the destruction of that house. However, if aspected by a benefic planet, there is happiness for that house. || 2 ||
If the trines (1st, 5th, or 9th houses), the 2nd, 4th, 7th, or 10th houses are joined with benefic planets, are free from the sight (aspect) of malefic planets, are joined with the lord of that house, and are not joined with malefic planets, they say the house is nourished and auspicious. Otherwise, it is destroyed. A mixture of planets produces mixed results regarding the fulfillment of all the houses. || 1 ||
Now, with the following verses, the author speaks about the House of the Body Tanu-bhava: the First House, which signifies the physical self, health, and appearance.
This means: the Lord of the Body—the Lord of the Ascendant—is joined with a malefic planet and goes to any of the 12th, 6th, or 8th houses, then the person born will have no physical happiness. It should be understood that this rule is stated first to indicate that it applies to the House of Wealth and others as well. Because it was written previously: "Wise men speak of the destruction of a house if its lord is in the 6th, 8th, or 12th." He states something else: the Lord of Loss, the Lord of Enemies, or the Lord of Death, even if they are in their own signs i.e., the Lord of the 6th in the 6th, etc., they still cause the lack of physical happiness.
This interpretation might seem to contradict the Yavana The 'Yavanas' refers to the Greeks, whose astrological traditions were highly influential and integrated into early Indian astrology school of thought as found in the Brihat Jataka Brihat Jataka: "The Great Birth," a foundational 6th-century astrological text by Varahamihira. In that text, it says: "If the Lord of the 6th is in the 6th, the person is free from disease, happy, but miserly. If the Lord of the 8th is in the 8th, they are industrious and free from disease." To resolve this contradiction, this meaning should be understood: even if the Lord of the Body is in the 6th, 8th, or 12th and the house lord is also there, there will be positive results for that house, but the physical well-being of the person is still harmed.
