It should be stated that when the previously mentioned planetary combinations (yogas) occur, if the lords of the houses of Loss (12th), Enemies (6th), or Death (8th) are situated in their own signs, they will produce the specific results of those houses, for the fruits of these combinations are beyond ordinary thought.
Now the author describes another combination regarding the physical form. If, at the time of birth, the Lord of the Body original: Tanupati or Lagnesha, the planet ruling the First House or Ascendant is a malefic planet and is devoid of his natural strength, then the person born will be troubled by various afflictions. They will encounter many diseases, mental distress, and a state of constant irritation or anxiety.
Strength or weakness is determined by planetary positions such as "Exaltation" or "Debilitation." As stated in the Jātakamrta Jātakamrta: "The Nectar of Horoscopy," an ancient Sanskrit text on predictive astrology:
"A planet is strongest in its Exaltation, followed by its Moolatrikona a specific high-potency area of a sign, then its own sign, the sign of a 'Great Friend,' the sign of a 'Friend,' a 'Neutral' sign, the sign of an 'Enemy,' the sign of a 'Great Enemy,' and finally its 'Debilitation' sign. Each preceding position is stronger than the one following it." Following this method, one should understand the distinction between "High Strength" (Sattva) and "Weak Strength." According to the teachings of the masters, a planet is weak if it lacks these positional advantages. || 2 ||
Now the author describes the auspicious combinations (Shubha Yogas):
Regarding these auspicious combinations:
The Lord of the Limbs original: Angadhisha refers to the Lord of the Ascendant. The first combination occurs if the Ascendant Lord is joined with Mercury and Venus and is placed in a Quadrant Kendra: The 1st, 4th, 7th, or 10th houses, considered the power centers of a horoscope. The second combination is when he is in his own Exaltation sign (such as the Sun in Aries, the Moon in Taurus, Mars in Capricorn, Mercury in Virgo, Jupiter in Cancer, Venus in Pisces, or Saturn in Libra). The third is when the Ascendant Lord is in a friend's sign or is aspected viewed through a planetary "glance" by benefic planets.
If any of these combinations exist, the person born will be a "King among men." King (Bhupa) indicates a protector of the earth or ruler. Minister (Mantri) indicates a high official or counselor. Treasury of all wealth means he is the foundation or dwelling place of all riches. Embodiment of Pure Being (Sattva-rupa) means he possesses the quality of Sattva (goodness/purity). Consequently, he is Virtuous in character (Punya-shila), a performer of good deeds, and has Beautiful eyes (Suruchira-nayana) and a handsome physical form. Respected by all people means he is honored by everyone. The term "Virtuous character" also suggests qualities such as truthfulness and straightforwardness...
