Thus it is understood. Now, if at the time of birth, the Sky-dwellers original: gagana-sadām, referring to the planets that produce the combination for intelligence are in the state of "infancy" or "old age," then for those born, there is a Dullness of Intelligence Prajñā-māndyam: Slowness of mind or lack of intellectual sharpness or limited intellect. However, if an "infant" or "elderly" planet is situated in its Own Sign original: svakṣetra, then it destroys the flaw; this means it removes the flaw that causes the dullness of intelligence. || 11 ||

Now, he describes the combinations for Muteness Mūkatva and the Absence of Children Santāna-abhāva. If the Lord of the House of Speech the 2nd house, or the Lord of the Fifth House, or Jupiter the "significator" of both speech and children is situated in the Difficult Houses Trika-stha: The 6th, 8th, or 12th houses, usually associated with loss or suffering, then the person is devoid of speech—they shall be mute. If the Lord of the House of Speech or Jupiter is in the house of loss, enemies, or destruction the 12th, 6th, or 8th houses, one is devoid of speech. Similarly, if the lords of the father and others are joined here, muteness occurs for them. If the lord of the fifth house from the Lord of Speech Jupiter is in a difficult house, or if the Lords of the Fifth, Ninth, and First Houses Putra-dharma-anga-nāthāḥ are in the eighth house from the Ascendant at birth, there is an absence of children for men. || 12 || There may be a delay for some time if these are joined with Benefic Planets original: śubha-khaga, literally 'auspicious sky-goers'. If the Moon is in the sign of Cancer or the sign of the Sun Leo, one may have many daughters or limited sons. If a Malefic original: krūra, literally 'cruel' is in the fifth house from the Teacher of the Gods Jupiter, then one is childless. If the Shadow-Son Chāyā-putra: A poetic name for Saturn, the son of the shadow-goddess Chhaya is in his own house in the fifth, there is only one son at that time. || 13 ||

If joined with Jupiter and situated in a difficult house, then muteness occurs for the father and others. By the word "others," one should understand younger brothers and so forth. Now, if at birth, from Jupiter—that is, from the sign occupied by Jupiter—the lord of the fifth is in a difficult house, and the lords of the fifth, ninth, and first houses are in the difficult houses from the Ascendant, then the absence of children should be predicted. || 12 || Now he describes the Combination for Children Santāna-yoga... if those lords of the fifth, ninth, and first are joined with benefic planets...
