Commentary on the Ornament of Astrology 9

The table lists the twelve zodiac signs: Aries (Me), Taurus (Va), Gemini (Mi), Cancer (Ka), Leo (Sim), Virgo (Kam), Libra (Tum), Scorpio (Vrum), Sagittarius (Dhe), Capricorn (Mam), Aquarius (Kum), and Pisces (Mi). It maps them to specific lunar days (Tithis) and segments of time measured in Ghatis (24-minute intervals).

The second should be known as 7. Now, regarding the Lunar Days Afflicted by Malefics Krurakranta-tithi: A lunar day rendered inauspicious because a "cruel" planet like Saturn or Mars is transiting or influencing it. In this zodiac wheel, the wise person should place the lunar days tithi in order, beginning from Aries and the first day of the lunar fortnight pratipat. Having done this, one should identify the lunar day that is "seized" or occupied by a malefic planet. When a malefic planet resides in these specific signs and portions, the resulting combination yoga must be avoided. These durations starting from Aries or the "Clefts of Shiva" original: "शिवचक्रे" — refers to a specific wheel/diagram used for calculating prohibited times are considered abandoned or void mukta. Those timings that are sequentially established as being occupied by malefics...

...are considered prohibited for all auspicious works. 8

Therefore, that time becomes a giver of faults dosha-da and is prohibited for all actions, moving through the calendar like the "Poisonous Lunar Days" original: "विषनलक्ष्त तिथिवत्सर्पति" — Visha-tithis are specific dates considered inherently toxic for new ventures. Just as the 5th, 10th, and 15th original: "षोणो" — likely referring to the 15th or 'full' day portions of the months are established, if they are joined or occupied by malefic planets, they become prohibited. This is the meaning. 8
