By observing the sky, the breath, and the living spirit, one identifies the "Botanical," the "Mineral," and the "Living" original: mūla-sthabhra-jīva (likely a variant or scribal error for mūla-dhātu-jīva). These are the three fundamental categories of all objects in Vedic astrology.. In such observation, "Mineral" is also considered. This is remembered as the method for defining the seeker's concern:
If the head is touched, the concern is about a living being original: jīva-cintā. Concerns regarding humans, animals, or birth..

Touching the eyes or the forehead indicates a concern about a living being and brings auspicious results.
Touching the heart or the stomach indicates a concern about minerals, and the result is of middling quality.
In the area where the ankles or thighs are seen to be touched, the primary thought is of botanical matters.
