When the benefic planets original: Saumya (planets like Jupiter, Venus, and Mercury) are situated in the ninth, fifth, or in the cardinal houses term: Kantaka (also known as Kendra; the 1st, 4th, 7th, and 10th houses of a birth chart), and when the lords of the ascendant are Venus original: Daitya-sachiva (literally "the minister of the demons"), Mercury original: Jna, and Jupiter original: Vrihaspati, the child will grow to enjoy a life of diverse pleasures and comforts.
Now, regarding Ear-Piercing term: Karnavedha (the ritual piercing of a child's ears, thought to provide health benefits and spiritual protection), the sage Garga states: The piercing of the ears is highly recommended in the sixth, seventh, or eighth month, or even in the eighth year of the child's life.
The sages declare that ear-piercing brings about a "prosperity of splendor" original: Shri-vivardhane when performed under the Pushya star original: Tishya on an auspicious day during the months of Kartika (October-November), Pausha (December-January), Chaitra (March-April), or Phalguna (February-March).
According to the collection titled Vaddara-samucchaya: The sages say that ear-piercing should not be performed in the child's birth month, nor in the months of Chaitra, Pausha, or Bhadrapada. It should be done when the Sun is bright and visible, on a lunar day that is not empty term: Rikta (the 4th, 9th, and 14th days of a lunar fortnight, considered hollow or unfavorable for new beginnings).
The sage Badarayana provides further detail: The ceremony is auspicious when the Moon is in the stars of Mrigashirsha, Ashvini, Rohini original: Dhatri, Chitra, or Hasta. The three "prior" stars original: Tri-purva (Purva Phalguni, Purva Ashadha, and Purva Bhadrapada), Punarvasu, and Shatabhisha are also favorable. It should be done on a Thursday under a beautiful rising sign term: Lagna joined by benefic planets. When Venus and Jupiter are in the center of the chart original: Kendra during the bright fortnight, the ear-piercing ceremony brings great benefit.
Now, regarding the First Haircut term: Chudakarana (the sacrament of the first tonsure, symbolizing the shedding of past-life attachments and the beginning of a new intellectual life), Guru Jupiter, acting as an authority states: The ceremony is particularly auspicious in the third year after conception or birth. For both girls and boys, the fifth or seventh years are also considered favorable.
Regarding the lunar days, Parashara advises: The fifth, seventh, twelfth, eleventh, thirteenth, and third lunar days are those that bring happiness when performing the rite of shaving original: kshaurakarma.
Purification of the Day: As for the days of the week, shaving is auspicious on Fridays, Wednesdays, and Mondays in both fortnights. Mondays in the bright fortnight are considered especially excellent.
The favorable stars for this ritual are Ashvini, Shravana, Svati, Chitra, Pushya, Punarvasu, Dhanishtha, Revati, Jyeshtha, and Mrigashirsha.
