Regarding the points for the Pulse-Obstruction term: Nadi-vedha (the most important of the eight compatibility factors, worth 8 points, relating to physiological health and offspring) and other compatibility factors: six points are assigned to the friendship of the signs, while five points are given for the friendship of the ruling planets and for Instinctive Compatibility original: Yoni-maitri.
Four and three points are prescribed for the Strength of the Stars original: Tara-bala. This has been proclaimed by the sages and is well-known in the tradition. Regarding the Classification of Class original: Varna-kuta, the sage Narada states: The signs of Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces belong to the priestly class original: Vipra or Brahmin. The next three signs Aries, Leo, Sagittarius are the warrior class original: Kshatriya. Following these, three are of the merchant class original: Vaishya, and three are remembered as the laborer class original: Shudra.
In the assessment of these classes, a superior status for the woman is generally good; however, it is inauspicious if the man is of a lower class. If there is a loss of class status—specifically if the man is of a lower caste original: varna than the woman—it is said in the context of marriage that the husband will not live long. According to the Jyotirnibandha A famous medieval compendium of astrological laws, all classes are suitable for men, provided they are not born of "watery" signs. In the sign of Leo, and for those born under the sign of Scorpio, specific exceptions apply.
Now, Star Compatibility original: Tara-kuta; based on the distance between the birth stars of the couple: One should count from the bride's birth star to the groom's star and divide by nine. The resulting remainder determines the points. This is mutually auspicious, though sharing the same birth star is generally avoided if it falls on the eleventh position. The fifth star is considered particularly praiseworthy, and the remaining are considered excellent for sign compatibility.
Now, Instinctive Compatibility original: Yoni-kuta; literally "source" or "womb" compatibility, where each star is assigned an animal archetype to determine sexual and temperamental harmony:
The Elephant original: Gaja corresponds to the stars Bharani and Revati.
The Ram original: Mesha corresponds to Krittika and Pushya.
