[This page contains no text or illustrations; it depicts the physical textile binding of the manuscript.]
This protective wrapping, traditionally called a basta, is made of a deep magenta or purplish fabric. A horizontal seam is visible across the center of the material, and a yellow border runs along the left edge. The fabric shows significant dark staining and potential mold damage at the bottom, reflecting the historical environmental conditions in which the manuscript was kept.
