Know the channels Ida, Pingala, and Sushumna. The Ida channel The lunar or feminine channel is on the left and is associated with the Moon. The Pingala channel The solar or masculine channel is on the right and is associated with the Sun. 50. The Sushumna channel The central, neutral channel is the very form of the Creator. It is the form of the Supreme Swan original: "Paramhansa." A symbol of the liberated soul that can discriminate between the real and the unreal. and of Lord Shiva himself. The outgoing breath is called the sound "Ham," and the incoming breath is called the sound "Sa." 51.
The sound "Ham" represents Lord Shiva and the sound "Sa" represents the Goddess Bhavani. The wise one is he who recites the Soham prayer original: "Soham jap." Literally "I am That," a natural mantra formed by the sound of breathing. through these breaths. It is the true form of reality, a continuous flow that protects and bathes the soul in the essence of Shiva. 52. Any Yogi who is supremely discerning and masters these breaths becomes free from disease. At one moment the breath is in the left, at another it is in the right; when it flows through the middle, it attains the name Sushumna. 53.
Fire resides within that central channel; without focused meditation, all spiritual efforts are wasted. It holds a flaming, radiant form; however, for the worldly-minded, it can act like poison and destroy their tasks if not handled with care. 54.
Couplet
Merge the mind into that central channel and give your heart to meditation on the Absolute original: "Brahm." The ultimate, infinite reality.. One who masters this state of deep absorption attains a profound and ever-new bliss. 55.
Quatrain
The Goddess Gauri speaks to Lord Shiva: "The knowledge of the Physical Body original: "Pind." The microcosm. has been fully explained. Now, please speak of the wisdom of the nostrils and the breath; explain it in detail and withhold nothing." 56. "By what method should that practice be performed?"
Shiva Spoke:
"Listen, O Goddess, to the secret of the breath, by whose constant practice one always finds success and rhythm in life. 57. This is a quality that even the Vedas The most ancient sacred scriptures of India. do not fully know. This wisdom pervades the human experience. There are two openings in the nose—the left and the right. 58. The right is the Sun, and the left is the Moon (associated with the northern path); they alternate according to their own cycles. Sometimes the right breath is active, and sometimes the left path is taken. 59. They do not both flow at the same place at once, though they sometimes 3 meet in the middle. If a heavy breath ever arises, it moves with great speed and force. 60.
