Through the rules of the Twilight Prayer Sandhya Vidhana: Ritual prayers performed at dawn, noon, and dusk and the seating of the preliminary ritual, one should not let the mind wander but focus it within, stabilizing the inner self to realize one’s true nature, O Brother. 41.
Doha A rhyming couplet form in Indian poetry
Whatever is without color or form is all made manifest there. Through this, one understands the movement of all the stars in the sky, the planets, and the zodiac signs. 42.
Chaupai A four-line verse structure
When everything is perceived internally, one attains a transcendent vision of all movements. One comes to know the coming of all good and evil, and can describe the heavens, the earth, and the underworld. 43. Only one upon whom the grace of the True Guru Satguru: A spiritual teacher of the highest order falls can truly understand this state. 44. Thus ends the Practice of the Yoga of Knowledge of the Stars.
Chaupai
First, one must make the body and mind pure; then, by mastering the postures, one follows the path of meditation. Without the postures, the body cannot become pure; those who are wise know eighty-four such postures. 45. Among them, twenty-one are primary, which give rise to all others. Each one is a means to an end with various virtues; one should practice them in a virtuous place. 46. One should always eat a light meal first, then sit in solitude where no one can keep company, and remain steady for a period of time. 47.
The Posture of the Swan-Action Hamsa Karma: "Hamsa" means swan, representing the soul and the sound of the breath.
Doha
To practice the Swan-Action, first apply sacred ash to the limbs. Bind the "Thunderbolt Lock" Vajra: A reference to a specific yogic seal or lock for energy with stubborn persistence Hatha: The yoga of physical force or discipline, and the worldly tendencies will vanish. 48.
Chaupai
I shall now describe the body's posture for the Swan-Action; its name is the "Natural Posture" Sahajasana: A comfortable, seated meditation pose. Make the back level like a cart and place the calves upon the calves. 49. Cross the thighs with the left foot and remain silent while reciting the Unspoken Prayer Ajapa: The natural, continuous sound of the breath (Ham-sa) that occurs without conscious effort. 50. The outgoing breath is called "Ham" and when the breath enters, it is "Sa." This "Ham-sa" is the form of the Soul, and that Soul is the Supreme Soul. 51. By mastering the movement of the "Ham-sa" breath, the internal light is revealed. One becomes pure and fearlessness arises there.
