SIR EDWIN ARNOLD Sir Edwin Arnold (1832–1904) was a prominent English poet and journalist best known for his work The Light of Asia, which popularized Buddhist philosophy in the West. He visited Japan in 1889 and was a significant influence on Western perceptions of the East during Hearn's era.
