The Lamp of Birth

If that planet is a malefic original: krūre; a "cruel" planet like Saturn or Mars, the person has short limbs, is unusually tall, and suffers from chronic illness. He lives in such misery that he is like the "living dead" original: jīvanmṛta. However, if a benefic planet original: saumya-gaganācare; a "gentle sky-traveler" is present, the man is happy. 8

When the Lord of the Eleventh original: ekādaśe yogeśe is in the Second House original: krūra-nālaye; likely a scribal variant for the house of wealth, he is highly skilled in the sacred scriptures original: śāstra-viśārada; one who has mastered the Shastras, famous for his righteousness, and devoted to his teachers and the gods. If a malefic is also there, he remains remarkably free from the troubles caused by many enemies. 9

The man is devoted to his mother and performs many good deeds, yet he harbors hatred for his father. He lives a long life, is wealthy, and is dedicated to caring for his mother, even when the Lord of Gains is located in the Ascendant original: lagnagate; although the text says "Ascendant," the number 10 suggests this refers to the 10th House/Career. 10

When the Lord of Gains resides in the House of Gains original: lābhādhipate lābhagataḥ; the 11th lord in the 11th house, it grants a long life. The person is successful, well-nourished, and possesses a strong body. Even if joined by a malefic planet, his character remains virtuous, and his heart is inclined toward bringing joy to the public. 11

When the Lord of Gains is in the Twelfth House original: dvādaśāṅge; the house of loss, he enjoys the things he produces himself. He is a man of pride and a generous giver, yet he often remains personally sorrowful.

When the Lord of Expenditure original: vyayanāthe; the 12th lord resides in the Ascendant original: lagnagate, the person travels to foreign lands. He is true to his word and handsome, yet he suffers from the flaw of being gossiped about original: apasaṅgavāda-doṣe. He remains youthful in his habits and eats simple grains. 1

When the Lord of the Twelfth is in the House of Wealth original: vittagate; the 2nd house, the man is a miser, speaks harshly, and sees his profits vanish. If Mars original: bhaume is involved, there is a constant fear of losing wealth to thieves. 2

When the Lord of the Twelfth is in the Third House original: sahanagate; house of siblings, if it is a malefic planet, his siblings pass away. If it is a benefic original: śubhe, he is wealthy, but his brother is a great miser. He lives among his relatives. 3

When the Lord of Expenditure goes to the Fourth House original: turyagate, the man is miserly and sickly. Despite performing good deeds, he meets his end while traveling?. His mind is perpetually burdened by great sorrow. 4

When the Lord of the Twelfth is in the Fifth House original: sute; the house of children, if it is a malefic, he is without children. If it is a benefic, he has good children. He delights in his father's prosperity original: janaka-kamalā-vilāsī but is a man lacking in steady judgment. 5

When the Lord of Expenditure goes to the Sixth House original: ṣaṣṭhagate, if it is a malefic, the man is a miser with a sharp tongue...
