The Jewel of Marriage

Salutations to the venerable Ganesha. Lord Ganesha is the elephant-headed deity traditionally invoked at the start of Hindu manuscripts to remove obstacles. Now begins the Jewel of Marriage. Having bowed to the son of the Goddess Ganesha, the son of Parvati and meditating upon the light of astrological wisdom, this condensed Jewel of Marriage was composed by Kshemankara for the sake of prosperity. original: "Kṣemaṃkareṇa" — the author’s name, which literally means "the doer of welfare." (1) When Jupiter is in Leo original: "siṃhe gurau", or at the end of the cycles of Venus and Jupiter, or during the birth month or the month of decay, one should not perform a marriage ceremony. (2) For the groom, one must ensure the strength of the Sun.

For the bride, one must ensure the strength of Jupiter. For both, the strength of the Moon—the king of the twice-born original: "dvija rāja" — an epithet for the Moon—must be present; then the marriage shall be a giver of happiness. (3) This concludes the rule for the Threefold Strength. The Moon is auspicious for men in the 3rd, 6th, 10th, and 11th positions; in the 4th, 10th, 11th, and 2nd, it is otherwise beneficial for mankind. (4) This concludes the rule for

the strength of the Moon. When Jupiter is in the 9th, 5th, or 7th house from the birth sign, it is auspicious. In the 3rd, 6th, 10th, or 11th, it is painful or contrary. (5) Paghadyadyah? is mediocre. (6) This concludes the rule for the strength of Jupiter. Regarding the second Mala an intercalary or "dirty" month in the lunar calendar, the transition of the Sun into the sign of Capricorn, and the movement of the stars... these times are unsuitable for those joined in marriage.
