The Results of Crow Droppings

Now begins the section on the results of crow droppings original: "kaka-vishta"; considered a significant omen in Indian augury (Shakuna Shastra) requiring immediate purification and the ritual remedy. One should prepare an equal mixture of cleansing pastes and have a full-body massage performed.

The crow deity should be honored with garlands, scents, and incense. After bathing, one must offer cooked food and a ritual offering bali; a propitiatory oblation intended for spirits or specific deities in iron vessels. One should also provide gifts to Brahmins the priestly class and ensure the ritual honorarium dakshina; a necessary payment to a priest that validates a religious rite is given.

Then, a second bath should be performed using the five products of the cow panchagavya; a sacred purifying mixture of milk, curd, ghee, urine, and dung. A lamp with six faces a lamp containing six wicks and a ritual offering should be placed in the center of the space.

Prepare a mixture of:

• Sun-plant original: "arka"; Calotropis gigantea, a medicinal plant specifically sacred to the Sun deity
• Musk original: "mriganabhi"; literally "deer-navel"
• Sandalwood original: "shrikhanda"

By applying a forehead mark tilaka; a symbolic mark placed on the brow for protection and blessing from this mixture, one wards off all misfortunes. By this specific method, every calamity is destroyed.
