Through the influence of the established expansion (1), the combination proceeds from the twelve-year cycle. From the origin, the aggregate piṇḍa: the total or "body" of the calculation is formed by the years, the lunar mansions nakṣatra: the 27 star clusters of the zodiac, the solstice ayana: the six-month northern or southern path of the sun, the zodiac signs, the lords of the seven vowels, and the signs of the months.
The breath prāṇa: used here as a subtle unit of time or vital energy, the five lunar days, the day-lord, the vowel duration mātrā svara: the temporal length of a vowel, and the sequence of time-units nāḍikā: a period of 24 minutes are declared as the seventh in the sequence of time. (18)
Having divided the sixty years into five groups, the vowels original: "svara" are applied to these five-fold combinations. In the same way, the Lord of the Total original: "piṇḍanātha" for the five-year periods was spoken by those who possess knowledge of time for the sake of clarifying the intended meaning. (19)
Whether in the Southern original: "yāmya" or Northern original: "saumya" solstice, one must recognize the faults or strengths according to the tradition. The lordship over the fortnight pakṣa: the two-week periods of the waxing or waning moon is determined in this manner. (20)
Furthermore, in the bright fortnight and others, the vowel is determined by the fifth part original: "pañcamabhāga" of the duration. One should understand the vowel lords in the divisions of the signs. (21)
In the months of Mārgaśīrṣa roughly November-December and Bhādrapada roughly August-September, or when the vowel lords are without measure in the Śravaṇa nakṣatra, they are proclaimed by the masters as being situated within the heat. (22)
The sound 'U' is the cause, and 'M' is the silent designation. The sound 'R' pervades, and the 'U' sound is seen as the lotus. Here, the lords of the fifth are the vowels which become the masters of the month in their proper sequence. (23)
Wherever the first vowel occurs, that is the power for the sequence of the lunar days starting with Nanda the 1st, 6th, and 11th lunar days. This was declared by the sages regarding the dates and the days of the week. (24)
By these measured time-units nāḍikā, five in sequence, the 'A' and 'I' sounds arise. This is the daily vowel on this day, alternating with the measured vowel. (25)
By five nāḍikās approx. 2 hours total in sequence, the vowel shines in the five ancestral divisions original: "pitṛda". That is called the ghatikā-vowel ghatikā: a unit of time equal to 24 minutes by the wise. (26)
In this way, these vowels, joined with their predecessors, provide the increase or decrease of the fruits of one's own actions. I have described this according to the opinion of the King; it is the science of phonetic dawning svarodaya: the study of breath and sound for divination and nothing else. (27)
Thus, the wise one who knows the occurrences born of their own time through proper calculation, even in the passing of ages yuga: a vast cosmic epoch, his speech shall never be false, just as his measurement remains true. (28)
