In this way, through the distinctions of the spoken vowels, their sequential order arises. They are known as Childhood, Youth, Adulthood, Old Age, and Death. (29) Regarding the state of Death original: "mṛtyu", it is spoken of as the first; the second is Old Age; the third is Adulthood; the fourth is Youth; and the fifth is designated as Childhood. These are calculated by those learned in the science using a reverse counting method. (30)
When these vowels are applied, they yield results according to their sequence. A vowel in the Childhood state original: "bala" brings wealth, while others may lead to destruction or even death. (31) Through one's own actions, the fruits of success or great effort are realized here according to the prescribed path. (32)
The Child state is stronger than the Death state; the Old state is stronger than the Child; the Youth state is stronger than the Old; and the Adult state is the strongest of all. (33)
This hierarchy determines gain and loss. In battle, the Death and Old states are considered weak and inauspicious. The Adult state taruṇa: meaning "vigorous" or "peak maturity" among its own letters acts like a king over enemies; even when a person has lost their strength, they regain their prowess through this state, just as the moon regains its light. (34) In the fire of conflict, victory and defeat are decided; the Adult state brings victory, while the Youth state may face opposition, though it is sometimes auspicious. (35)
One should examine the four vowels that have arisen and establish their positions. Through the combination of these vowels, the twelve houses and their results are determined. At various times, one should observe these natural states to see if they are praiseworthy or not. (36-37)
In matters of travel yātrā: a formal journey or military expedition, war yuddha, or performing harsh deeds original: "krūra karma", the Child state is generally considered favorable for all. The Youth state original: "kaumāra" is best for auspicious desires, as it leads to the successful completion of one's goals. (38) On firm ground, the Adult state is powerful for harsh tasks, ensuring success in travel and war. However, the Old state is inauspicious for travel and war; if one attempts to master mantras mantra: sacred chants or formulas during this time, the results will be fruitless. (39)
One should not perform any desired auspicious or beneficial work when a vowel is in the Death state. Teachers say that this state produces only death and ruin. (40) By joining the right combinations, one attains the body of success without effort. Whether in travel, in the village, or in the city, the Total Body piṇḍa: the mathematical aggregate used in these calculations should be considered. Success or obstacles are determined by the stars and the influence of these states.
