The first lunar day is the primary one. || 67 || When there is a "piercing" original: "vedha," referring to the overlapping of two lunar days of more than sixty-five likely referring to small units of time called palas, the vow should be observed on the subsequent day. In that case, one should fast after worshipping the mantra and offering fruits and other items. || 68 || Decision-
It is stated in the Jewel of Decisions original: "Nirnaya-ratna," a famous 17th-century treatise on religious law that these rules apply to other lunar days as well. Thus, the clear determination of the first lunar day original: "Pratipad-nirnaya" has been spoken by Hemadri. A celebrated 13th-century scholar and administrator who wrote the Chaturvarga-chintamani, an encyclopedic work on Hindu rituals. || 69 ||
Eating after midday has passed is the indicator for this decision. A single meal Ekabhakta: A dietary discipline where the practitioner eats only once a day, usually at a specific time. is said to consist of three mouthfuls less than one's usual portion. || 70 ||
From seven and a half units of time Muhurta: A traditional unit of time lasting 48 minutes. 7.5 muhurtas is exactly 6 hours, or midday in a 12-hour day for the duration of one and a half units: this is the time for the single meal. The primary period, however, lasts until sunset. || 71 ||
The time following that is considered the "secondary" original: "gauna," or less-preferred time period; thus it was spoken by Madhava. Madhava (c. 1296–1386) was a prominent Vedic scholar and minister of the Vijayanagara Empire. From seven and a half units of time for a duration of two and a half units: || 72 ||
