Half of the zodiac is said to be the eastern half, and the other half is the western. The degrees of the Bhacakra: Zodiac Wheel are measured from the rising sign The "Lagna" or Ascendant for the first half, and the remaining portions are considered the "consumable" or passing degrees for the western half. 31.
The signs of the celestial wheel are as follows: Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, and Virgo are known as nocturnal signs original: "Nishabala", signs that gain strength at night. Libra, Sagittarius, Scorpio, Aquarius, Capricorn, and Pisces are called diurnal signs original: "Divatmaka", signs that are powerful during the day. 32-33.
Aries, Taurus, and Cancer—along with Sagittarius and Capricorn—are known as signs that rise from the rear original: "Prishthodaya". These signs are thought to emerge tail-first over the horizon. Gemini, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, and Aquarius are called "Head-rising" signs original: "Shirshodaya", considered more auspicious for certain results. Pisces is said to rise with both sides together. 34.
A zodiac sign is truly strong when it is aspected by or joined with its own planetary ruler, or by the planets Mercury original: "Budha" or Jupiter original: "Vachaspati". If it is not aspected by these, its strength is diminished. 35. A sign yields its fruits according to its own nature, but its effects are modified when it is occupied or aspected by benefic or malefic planets. 36.
Whichever house original: "Bhava" is joined with or aspected by benefic planets will see increase and prosperity; conversely, those influenced by malefic planets will suffer loss or destruction. 37. The twelve houses, known in the science of Horika: Astrology, must be contemplated in this order:

The ancient masters have described the seven divisions of a sign used to determine planetary strength. In an odd sign, the first half belongs to the Sun and the second to the Moon; in an even sign, this order is reversed. The Drekkanas belong to the lords of the 1st, 5th, and 9th signs from the sign in question. 40.
The Navamsha divisions for Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius begin with Aries; for Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn, they begin with Capricorn; for Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius, they begin with Libra; and for Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces, they begin with Cancer. 41.
The lords of the Trimshamshas the 30 degrees of a sign for odd signs are, in order: Mars, Saturn, Jupiter, Mercury, and Venus. For even signs, the experts in nativities original: "Jatakajña" declare the order is reversed. 42.
