If the Moon is in a sign ruled by Jupiter original: "Guru-kshetra," referring to Sagittarius or Pisces, or if Jupiter and Venus are in the twelfth house, or if Mercury is in its own house or a forest-like sign, the birth is not of illicit origin original: "na jara-jata," meaning the child is born of a lawful marriage. 21

If the Ascendant Lagna is aspected by malefics in the twelfth or sixth houses, it indicates an illicit birth. However, if a benefic planet is situated in a cardinal house Kendra the 1st, 4th, 7th, or 10th houses, the birth is declared legitimate. 22

If a benefic is in the Ascendant and in an odd sign, or if Mercury and Venus are in specific portions, the birth occurs near water. 23

If Saturn is in the twelfth house and the Moon and Sun are in the sixth house, the birth occurs in a temple original: "devatagare", a playground, or a place surrounded by water. 24

If the Ascendant and its portion are masculine, and Saturn is powerful, the birth may occur in a king's palace, a cow-pen original: "goshtha", or a traveler’s lodge. 25

Depending on whether benefics or Venus are in the cardinal houses, the circumstances of the birth are categorized by the learned sages. 26

If the planetary portions are in movable signs Chara, the birth occurs while traveling; if in fixed signs Sthira, the birth occurs in one's own home original: "sviya gehe". If the signs are dual-natured, the results are mixed. 27

When the Ascendant and the Moon's portion are both weak and located in a sign with no other planets, the sages declare that the birth occurs in a desolate or lonely place. 28

If the Moon original: "Vidhu" is in the sign of the Sun Leo, or if they are in low degrees, or if Saturn is joined with the Moon in the darkness, the birth takes place in a ditch, a hole, or a subterranean place. 29

If aspected by auspicious planets original: "shubhagrahai", the birth is considered blessed and well-attended. 30

If the Ascendant, the Moon, Jupiter, and the Sun are all in odd signs Ojabha Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius, Aquarius and in odd-numbered degrees, the child will be male. If they are in even signs and even degrees at the time of conception or birth, the child will be female. 31

If the Ascendant is in an odd sign but the Moon is in an even sign, or if the sign Capricorn Makara is powerful, the birth may be atypical; some ancient texts even suggest the appearance of the infant may resemble a monkey original: "vanara" or other creatures if the degrees are highly afflicted. 32
