Knowledge of the Birthing Room

Now, for the knowledge of the woman in childbirth Sutika: the bed of the mother should be described based on the planets situated in the Ascendant Lagna. If planets are in the middle of a sign, the mother is in the middle of the bed; if in the first half, she is at the head. 48 If the planets are malefic, the bed is old or broken; if they are auspicious original: "shubha", it is grand and fit for royalty. If mixed, the condition is likewise mixed.

Regarding the number of attendants: if a planet is in its own zodiac sign Rashi, the number of midwives is tripled. The structure of the room is determined by the zodiac signs: signs like Capricorn original: "Mruga" or the first half of the signs indicate the orientation. Gemini and Sagittarius represent the shape of the room or the bed frame. 50 Some say that the branches or pillars of the house follow the direction of the signs. 51

Determination of Attendants and Clothing

The number of midwives present is determined thus: Aries and Leo indicate a certain number; Taurus and Scorpio another. For Capricorn, Gemini, Libra, and Virgo, the number of attendants is three. 52

One should speak of the mother's clothing original: "matra vastram" based on the lord of the Navamsha of the Ascendant. Similarly, the food consumed by the mother before the birth original: "matra bhojanm" is revealed by the planets. 53 It is said that if planets are in certain houses, the food was honey-like, or perhaps liquid and varied. 54 If the Sun or Mars are dominant, the food was hot or spicy; if the Moon or Venus, it was sweet; if Saturn, it was salty or bitter original: "lavana". This is understood by the wise through the planetary influences. 55

If the Ascendant is in Aries, Leo, or Sagittarius, the mother may have forgotten her surroundings or acted with great passion. If the signs are feminine, she is calm. 56

The physical orientation of the newborn's body is also determined here: the head, the feet, and which side the child lies upon. The left foot or the right is determined by the strength of the planets in the third and eleventh houses. 57

The location of the door original: "dwaraka" of the birthing room is known from the strongest planet. If no planet is strong, it is determined by the sign itself. 58
