If those [two planets] are situated in their respective divisions Varga; the sixteen sub-charts used to determine the finer strength of a planet, then a specific combination Yoga is formed. However, if they are powerless, they do not create that alignment. || 67 ||
When joined with an enemy planet, a planet's position results in distress and heat the Sanskrit 'tāpa' refers to both physical heat and mental suffering; if combined with the element of wind Vāta; often associated with Saturn or Rahu, the combination is not effective. When the lords of expenditure the 12th house and death the 8th house are joined with the sun or wind, it leads to suffering original: "pīḍā", though the OCR reads "paḍā". || 68 ||
When the lords of those [malefic] houses are located in the house of the son the 5th house, related to intellect and offspring, they do not produce a beneficial alignment. Combinations for kingship or ministerial office Rājāmātyādi-yoga can manifest for a ruler even if the planets are in retrograde Vakragā; appearing to move backward from the Earth's perspective. || 69 ||
Thus, by observing these various distinctions and sub-distinctions, one should analyze the planetary effects in all contexts: in the birth chart Januṣi, at the time of a specific inquiry Praśna, in the annual solar return chart Varṣa, and when selecting an auspicious moment Muhūrta. || 70 ||
Whatever you asked of me, I have explained it all here. This knowledge should not be given to just anyone, in order to ensure the successful fulfillment of these teachings. || 71 ||
Thus ends the ninth chapter, titled "The Discourse on the Description of Happiness, Suffering, and Other States," in the dialogue between Lomaśa and Saptati, found in the first section of the sixty-thousand-verse Lomaśa Saṃhitā. [Written in] the year 1649 of the Vikrama Era approximately 1592 CE, in the month of Phalguna, during the dark fortnight Kṛṣṇa-pakṣa.
