Agni is the deity of the Sun; in the Vedas, Varuna is spoken of as the deity of the Moon; Kumara Skanda, the god of war is for the Son of Earth Mars; Vishnu is spoken of for Mercury; Indra is for Jupiter; Saraswati is for Venus; Prajapati is for Saturn; then Ganapati is for Rahu; Rudra is for Ketu; Dhruva is the deity of the Fixed Star; and Ananta the Infinite Serpent is for the Infinite. These are proclaimed as the deities of the planets.
Nanda The Joyful: 1st, 6th, and 11th days, Bhadra The Auspicious: 2nd, 7th, and 12th days, Jaya The Victorious: 3rd, 8th, and 13th days, Rikta The Empty: 4th, 9th, and 14th days, and Purna The Full: 5th, 10th, and 15th days.
On a Nanda day, all works may be undertaken; on a Bhadra day, misfortune may occur; on a Jaya day, victory is assured; on a Rikta day, it bestows inauspiciousness; and on a Purna day, all welfare is attained. Such is the word of the sage Garga.
