The Maiden original: "Kanya" referring to Virgo is one; in the Scales original: "Tula" referring to Libra and the Bull, five measures are recorded.
The Body 1, Wealth 2, Siblings 3, Friends 4, Children 5, Enemies 6, Spouse 7, Death 8, Virtue 9, Profession 10, Gains 11, and Losses 12.
These twelve categories, or "Bhavas," represent the different areas of human life governed by the twelve sections of a horoscope.
In whichever zodiac sign the Sun is situated, the wise man should determine the day and night. Six signs in the sky are declared for the day, and six for the night. In the Horned Goat original: "Makara" referring to Capricorn there is an increase of two and six; in [the signs starting with] the Ram original: "Mesha" referring to Aries, four and five; in the Fish original: "Mina" referring to Pisces and the Ram, three; in the Bull, four; and in the Twins original: "Mithuna" referring to Gemini, ten are said to be the measures of the day. In the Crab original: "Karkata" referring to Cancer, these measures; in the Lion, four and five; six in the Maiden. In the Scales, six; in the Scorpion original: "Vrischika", three; in the Bow original: "Dhanus" referring to Sagittarius, a loss of day-length is declared.
The stars of The Horsemen original: "Ashvini" and The Bearer original: "Bharani", and the first part of The Cutter original: "Krittika", belong to the Ram [Aries], the sign of Mars original: "Bhauma".
The remaining three parts of The Cutter, The Red One original: "Rohini", and half of The Deer's Head original: "Mrigashira", belong to the Bull [Taurus], the sign of Venus original: "Bhargava".
The other half of The Deer's Head, The Moist One original: "Ardra", and three parts of The Return of Wealth original: "Punarvasu", belong to the Twins [Gemini], the sign of Mercury original: "Budha".
The remaining one part of The Return of Wealth, The Nourisher original: "Tishya/Pushya", and The Embracer original: "Ashlesha", belong to the Crab [Cancer], the sign of the Moon original: "Chandra".
