This table serves as a conversion key. Each column assigns a numerical value (top row) to the vowels and consonants listed below it. For example, the letters Ka, Ḍha, and Ma all carry a value of 5.
In this manner, for the two referring to two opposing sides or kings in a conflict, whichever digits are assigned, they should be placed together in one spot. These are then divided by 8 original: "hṛtāḥ", meaning 'taken away' or 'divided'. The results that remain śeṣa: the remainder in a modular arithmetic calculation used to determine auspiciousness define the various actions to be taken.
How do these outcomes manifest? As the conqueror of one's own self? the object being won?... the winner is determined by joining these values together. This has been stated by the scholars in the ancient texts. 1.
A-Kā — 6; Lā — 3; Ra — 2; Ma — 4; Ja — 8; Tī — 6; Gha — 8; Ma — 4; Gā — 3.
Regarding the letter 'Na': after performing the calculation with the value of 2, and adding it to the following digit, one should then divide by 6 original: "hṛtta", divided by 6. Whichever side has the greater remainder bala: literally 'strength' or 'power', referring to the numerical advantage, that person shall be the winner and the master of strength. This should be determined carefully by the intellect. 3. Ta-lā-ra-bhi-ja-nau-dha-ma-gā-na... 9.
